About this product
Founded by Brian Couzens in 1979, Chandos quickly established itself as one of the world's leading classical labels. The 'Chandos Sound' has become a benchmark for quality, renowned alike among artists and critics around the globe. From it's inception, Chandos has specialised in recording British music, and in bringing lesser-known (and unknown) music to public attention. Released to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the tag, this handsomely packaged 40-disc set comprises 40 complete recordings from Chandos' extensive catalogue. Each of the four decades is represented, and each recording has been hand-picked by the Managing Director, Ralph Couzens, because it represents a turning point, or 'Landmark', in the development of the tag.

Since the beginning of Capriccio's recordings the Sacred Music repertoire had a very special place in the catalogue. Started with the most famous boys' choirs in the former GDR (Dresden Boys' Choir, Thomanerchor Leipzig), continued with Boys' choirs in the West (Vienna Boys' Choir, Tölz Boys' Choir, Regensburger Domspatzen) up to artists like the Rheinische Kantorei with Hermann Max, these ensembles filled the catalogue with most interesting gaps in recording history like Zelenka, Hasse, Telemann or Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach Cantatas or Oratorios. This first Capriccio 10 album Anniversary Box includes a lot of remastered recordings from the past which have not been available at the market anymore, as well as a representative Selection of Niche- and Standard Repertoire productions.

Like the 2020 concert season, the concert season 2021 suffered under the pandemic restrictions. Again and again the Klavierfestival Ruhr management tried, with great help of their very flexible agenda, to fix new dates. And that made it possible to record some of the evenings, programmed in this , which is Vol. 40 in this Edition. The classical program includes a world premiere from Kit Armstrong (for Alfred Brendel). Like in previous years the 3rd album in this has been reserved for a Jazzline performance, executed and composed by A Bu who installed an energetic, exciting and diversified agenda with 12 tracks.

Spanish violinist Francisco Fullana returns to Orchid Classics with a recital of Spanish music for violin and piano. Described as 'an amazing talent' by Gustavo Dudamel, Fullana has a natural affinity with this repertoire, which includes dazzling virtuoso pieces by the great violinist-composer Pablo Sarasate, as well as the evocative 'Sonata Española' by Joaquín Turina. The recital also features works by several composers from the Catalan region Enrique Granados, Eduardo Toldrà and Joan Manén, all of whom subtly combine characteristic Catalan folk styles with harmonic influences from France.
