About this product

The restoration of the historical pipe organ of the parish church of St James and Augustine in Cremona, carried out by the organ-maker Pietro Corna in Leffe (Bergamo) between 2017 and the spring-summer 2019, stands out as a relevant episode of the Italian organ-making craft. The instrument currently used, made by Francesco Bossi in 1853, still preserves the wooden organ case and the central group of the facade pipes of a former Renaissance organ, made in 1533 by Nicolò Tezani, a local organ-maker. The Cremonese organist Paolo Bottini plays on the historical organ a compilation of the best pieces of music written by Cremonese composers from the 16th to the 20th century. Album Tracks 1. Sinfonia Dell'opera Preziosa 2. Preghiera Alla Vergine II, Per Coro a 4 Voci 3. Marziale 4. Cornamusa 5. Dalla Messa Solenne in Fa Maggiore Per Organo Solo Sonata Per la Comunione 6. Dalla Messa Solenne in Fa Maggiore Per Organo Solo Elevazione 7. Preludio Op. 31 8. Allegretto Campestre 9. L'annunzio Ai Pastori, Pastorale Caratteristica, Per Sinfonia 10. Pastorale 11. Sonata in Do Maggiore 12. Fuga Sopra Un Tema Di Federico Caudana 13. Marcia 14. Canzona in Do 15. Domine, Ad Adiuvandum Me Festina, Dal Vespro Della Beata Vergine 16. Variazioni Sopra L'ave Maria Di Lourdes, È L'ora Che Pia la Squilla Fedel, 1993 19.

This anthology presented by the organist Margherita Sciddurlo is performed on the precious historical instrument the Petrus De' Simone 1747 organ of the Church of San'Antonio in Mola di Bari, fully preserved and in excellent condition. The organ in question becomes the medium to reviving a cross-section of the Apulian organ tradition whose roots are deeply connected to the musical activity of the Kingdom of Naples since the 16th century, when thousands of young talents came to the capital to undertake musical studies that ensured them a secure career. Puglia turned out to be a privileged territory where one could later exercise the profession, sponsored by the numerous feudal lords or by churches, musical chapels and convents. From Rocco Rodio from Bari to Giovanni Paisiello from Taranto, through to Nicola Porpora and Niccolò Jommelli, famous allover Europe thanks to bright careers abroad. The collection presented by Margherita Sciddurlo represents a pleasant organ cameo which also includes some world premiere recordings. Album Tracks 1. Intravolatura 2. Pastorale 3. Chaconne 4. Fuga/Giga in Re Maggiore 5. Pastorale 6. Sonata Per Organo 7. Terza Ricercata 8. Sonata [In Sol Maggiore] 9. Quinta Ricercata 10. Sonata [In Si Bemolle] 11. Pastorale 12. Sonata Per Organo 13. Fuga Diatonica, Enarmonica, Cromatica
