About this product

For anyone new to opera, the first question is often where to start? The 'Best Loved' series offers an easy answer to that question with a perfect introduction to the wonderful, varied world of operatic music. Highlighting some of the best-loved arias ever written, the series provides a convenient introduction to opera's extensive variety of sounds and styles. Opera can be defined as drama told through music and, at the height of it's popularity, conventions arose in which certain voice types came to share features of the characters they represented. This series presents the main vocal categories (soprano, mezzo-soprano, contralto, tenor, baritone and bass) by dividing them across four albums. The 'Best Loved' Arias series aims to demonstrate why opera as an art form remains as relevant and entertaining today as it was at it's inception 400 years ago. Album Tracks 1. Carmen~Act I Seguidilla 2. nozze di Figaro (The Marriage of Figaro)~Act II. Scene 2 Voi, che sapete che cosa e amor 3. Cenerentola (Cinderella)~Act II. Scene 3 Non più mesta... 4. Various Artists - Spectacular Soprano - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

The soprano voice occupies the highest-sounding line of music (in Italian 'sopra' means 'over' or 'above') and it is subdivided into various types. The coloratura is the virtuoso, suited for rapid ornamentation such as in Mozart's Queen of the Night (Die Zauberflöte). Puccini's Mimì (La Bohème) is an example of the lyric soprano, full of drama and well-rounded sound. More powerful than the lyric but retaining her softer qualities is the spinto, exemplified by Madama Butterfly, while the dramatic soprano, with her huge reserves of stamina, can be heard in works by Wagner. This quintessential collection of best-loved arias confirms that the soprano, in all her variety, sits at the very heart of the operatic experience. Album Tracks 1. Les Filles de Cadix = the Girls of Cadix 2. Roméo Et Juliette Je Veux Vivre 3. Madama Butterfly Un Bel Di Vedremo 4. Le Contes D'hoffmann = the Tales of Hofmann Les Oiseaux Dans la Charmille 5. Various Artists - Ossesso - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Jealousy, tenderness, loneliness and longing, desire, unattainability, sensuality, frustration, love, lust and loss in all their configurations come together in OSSESSO. The old masters allow us no escape from the painfully vivid portrayals of their experiences. Tromboncino and Gesualdo exemplify the extremes of which obsessiveness is capable, in their music as in their lives; in this sense, they are precursors to Phil Spector, Sid Vicious, or Bertrand Cantat. This is a selection of absolutely touching madrigals about love and affliction that represent the kaleidoscope of feelings and emotions of their composers, be it in the late Middle Ages or in the Renaissance, interspersed with some instrumental pieces. Album Tracks 1. I Vidi in Terra Angelici Costumi 2. O Cieco Mondo 3. I' Fu' Gia Bianch' Ucciel 4. Pace Non Trovo 5. Ahimè, Dov' È'l Bel Viso 6. Ameroso 7. O Geloisa 8. Chiara Fontana 9.
