About this product
Music is a dignified expression for the Dinka tribes of Southern Sudan. Here is a presentation of hymns and war songs of the type that are sung at a funeral for a chief, in this case, that of scholar Dr. Francis Deng's father. The hymns and war songs are focused towards the occasion of death, though the energetic and strident style of delivery may appear to belie the solemnity of a funeral. Extensive liner notes include English translations. Album Tracks 1. The Spears of Nyonbok 2. The Age-Set 3. The Tribe of Babo 4. Collection of Hymns 5. Drumming 6. I Quilled His Back 7. Our Grey One 8. Kwol 9. The Rek Stampeded 10. Forest Men 11. I Am Like the Governor 12. Arumjok, InchPied IbisInch 13. I Ran After the Dance 14. Throwing the Gun Away 15. I Am Left Alone 16.
