Various Artists - Musical Traditions of St Lucia / Various - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

This field recording reflects several musical traditions of the British commonwealth of St. Lucia. Traditions represented include English-influenced military brass bands and marches for fife and drum, children's play songs, women's work songs and Jwé (InchplayInch). Jwé is a chanted form of verbal heroics where the vocalist teases an individual or makes social or political commentaries; when a message resonates with an audience, they join in. Songs are sung in English and French creoles.

In this 1959 collection, American folklorist Harold Courlander documents a tradition of Palestinian folk song that has previously been known only through oral ritual. The compilation features vocally driven recordings as they are performed for ceremonial and spiritual purposes, including InchSong of the Month of Fasting,Inch InchRecitation from the Koran,Inch and several wedding songs. Songs capture different dialects and regional choral techniques. Liner notes include a comparison of the various cultural origins of Middle Eastern music, as well as descriptions and musical analyses of each song.

A classic collection from a 70's era songwriter/bassman with shades of Tom Petty, Eagles, Neil Young, Steely Dan. Rock & roll, R &B and taste of country. A slice of life with tales of commitment, love, passion, pain and humor. Produced with Mitchel Delevie (formerly with A & M and WB).
