Various Artists - Pickin On Zeppelin: A Tribute - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Coil - Musick To Play In The Dark - Purple & Black Smash [VINYL LP] Black, Colored Vinyl, Purple date 11/27/2020

Pickin' On Pearl Jam is a collection of some of the biggest and best-loved songs from the Seattle legends reinterpreted through the framework of classic Bluegrass instrumentation and vocal stylings. Series stalwarts Iron Horse are an Alabama-based quartet who've rearranged and performed these new versions of alt-rock classics using earnest sensibilities and traditional technique. There's no winking irony to be found here. Just four guys from Muscle Shoals putting forward an honest, heartfelt tribute to the music of five guys who've never been anything but honest and heartfelt.

Jazz artists from Louis Armstrong, Coleman Hawkins, Ella Fitzgerald, Charlie Parker, Ahmad Jamal, Miles, even Coltrane all relied on Tin Pan Alley, Broadway and the then current pop tunes as a basis for much of their most enduring recordings. To hear such respected jazz artists as those presented here re-casting songs written by the Fab Four, is evidence, if any is needed, that as popular composers, Lennon, McCartney and Harrison can probably be considered as leading voices in the New Pop Standard repertoire.
