Various Artists - Piece of Mind - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Surf Age Nuggets is a four-disc box set featuring the unsung heroes of the surf instrumental genre, InchSurf Age NuggetsInch traces the attitude of surf instrumental music from 1959 through it's demise in 1966. From long boards and short hair to short boards and long hair, the collection celebrates the lesser-known purveyors of the sound. All musical tracks are instrumentals and many are indeed obscure and they're supplemented by vintage station IDs and some unexpected audio treats from that era. This compilation accurately reflects the first time that music, sport and teenage lifestyle came together and confirms the attitude that surfing has always been a Inchrebel sportInch, one that continues to grow every year. Surf music was perfect for everything with it's twangy mixture of basic, pure-yet-raw '50s rock & roll, minus the teen-idol baggage. Suddenly, surfing and surf music were front and center, featured in comic books, advertising, movies and television series such as Batman, Mr. Ed and The Flintstones. The sound became pervasive and songs like Link Wray's InchJack the RipperInch, performed here by the Valiants, perfectly capture it's essence. The set contains four discs, a complete track-by-track annotation by surf experts Alan Taylor and Dave Burke from Pipeline magazine, plus pop culture surf memorabilia and vintage commercials.

Three totally different lives, characters and backgrounds collide as one InchCommon ViewInch. Challenge Records produced by Jasper Somsen. Enrico Pieranunzi has long been one of the best-known and appreciated personalities on the European jazz scene. Pianist, composer, arranger, he has recorded more than seventy albums under his own name, ranging from solo piano to trio, and from duet to quintet. He has played in concert and in the studio with Chet Baker, Lee Konitz, Marc Johnson, Joey Baron, Paul Motian, Chris Potter and Charlie Haden, performing at all the most important international festivals, from Montreal to Copenhagen, from Berlin to Madrid. Pieranunzi's formative years embraced both classical and jazz piano, and the influence of Debussy is readily apparent in the rich romanticism at the heart of his music. Emerging in the early '70s, Pieranunzi's lyrical approach quickly brought him to the forefront of the European scene, and in 1984 he formed a trio with Marc Johnson and Joey baron, the first of several outstanding groups with American musicians. In 1989, 2003 and 2008 he was voted Musician of the Year in the Italian magazine Musica Jazz critic's poll and he was 1997 recipient of the Django d'Or Award for best European Jazz Musician. In the recent years Pieranunzi performed and recorded frequently in the United States.
