Various Artists - Rough Guide to African Blues (Third Edition) / Various - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Rough Guide To Mali Blues - From the beating heart of the capital city Bamako to the rich musical soils of Niafunké, Mali has become synonymous with the raw desert blues sound. Featuring the likes of the legendary Tuareg band Tartit as well as Songhai bluesman Samba Touré, this Rough Guide also includes tracks by other unsung heroes, all of whom share the same goal of preserving a culture under serious threat.

From the extraordinary recordings of the true guitar evangelists Blind Willie Johnson and Reverend Gary Davis to classic spiritual renditions by legendary bluesmen Charley Patton, Blind Lemon Jefferson and Skip James, this handpicked selection highlights the mutual influence between Gospel and blues.01 Reverend Gary Davis The Angels Message To Me 03 0402 Blind Willie Johnson Lord I Just Can't Keep From Crying 03 0303 Bukka White I Am In The Heavenly Way 03 0404 Skip James Jesus Is A Mighty Good Leader 03 0105 Blind Roosevelt Graves And Brother Woke Up This Morning (With My Mind On Jesus) 02 5206 Blind Willie And Kate McTell God Don't Like It 02 4507 Mississippi John Hurt Blessed Be The Name 02 4808 Blind Joe Taggart God's Gonna Separate The Wheat From The Tares 02 5109 Blind Lemon Jefferson He Arose From The Dead 02 4710 Rev. Two CD set. This Rough Guide spotlights the front-runners of an explosive revival of African roots music. Listen to world-class artists, such as Staff Benda Bilili and the Bedouin Jerry Can Band, mix it up by infusing traditional sounds with the ultra modern, and by using ingenious homemade instruments, many of which are built from junk-yard materials. These are the sweet sounds of a movement which has not simply preserved, but truly reinvented musical genres with outstanding results. Includes bonus disc with music by Kenge Kenge.
