About this product
Clarinetist Andrea Cheeseman infuses every note of her performances with a sense of passion and purpose. It is with this intentionality that she approaches Ravello Records' SOMEWHERE, an album of electroacoustic works that expand the clarinet repertoire to new heights while also showcasing Cheeseman in the genre where she feels most at home. The title, SOMEWHERE, is deeply telling-listeners and performers are taken somewhere new, somewhere completely different, with every piece. This does not, however, suggest a lack of cohesion throughout the album. In fact, each piece fits together as neatly as the connection between the clarinet and the computer. The atmospheric nature of the first three pieces-the fluid Arioso/Doubles, the e.e. cummings-inspired somewhere, and a memory of abstract paintings in Messy-creates space for the performer to fully express herself. SOMEWHERE moves into a more rigid, angular soundscape with Ultraviolet and Penelope's Song, the latter using recordings of a weaving loom that back up the lonely but resolute responses to challenges by Odysseus' faithful wife in Homer's epic. The album then moves back to it's earlier meditative space with the ebbs and flows of Breath before concluding with the shimmering textures and harmonics of Favorable Odds. SOMEWHERE creates a one-of-a-kind dialogue between this symbiotic musical pairing. Cheeseman's thoughtful, nuanced, and altogether captivating performances welcome listeners into an experience they won't want to miss.

In his latest album Intermissions, pianist Svetozar Ivanov continues his tradition of creating compact discs with thematic unity and artistic cohesiveness. In the year of Beethoven's 250th anniversary, Svetozar Ivanov juxtaposes the composer's last Piano Sonata in C Minor op. 111 with Contrapunctus I from J. S. Bach's last work The Art of Fugue, and Mozart's Sonata K. 330 in C Major. Four Intermissions, by the American avant-garde composer Morton Feldman, who describes the peace and timelessness of these works as Inchvibrating stasisInch, serve as an audio palate cleanser between each work. The album cover displays one of Edward Hopper's last paintings Intermission, a powerful representation of a solitary figure in a public space. Intermissions is Svetozar Ivanov's fifth solo album with Gega New. In a fast-paced world where one rarely listens to an entire album, he keeps producing albums with unifying feel and pace, ones that ideally should be experienced as a complete concert.

This entertaining album features music of our time arranged for and performed by brass. The Brass Band Blechlkang, which consists of around 35 musicians, is made up of brass instruments and large classical percussion. With the exception of the percussion and the trombones, only instruments from the Saxhorn family are used. It is played on cornets, alto horns, baritones, euphonies, trombones and tubas. The structural similarity of the instruments used results in a particularly soft mixed sound. In combination with the ensemble-specific dominance of the bass register (up to five tubes), the typical, unmistakable sound of a brass band comes into play, which is compared over and over again with a Inchsoulful organInch.
