About this product

THE SEARCHERS were by far the outstanding group to emerge during the Merseybeat-driven 1963 U. K. Beat Boom. They looked and sounded great - they actually sounded American - and their covers of U. S. R&R, R&B, Folk and mainstream Pop records were always sensational. Indeed, they were one of the very few British acts who regularly improved on the original versions. This set is comprised of the 45s that inspired them, shaping their early sound and style, several of which are surprisingly little-known, with a couple bordering on the wholly obscure

Various Artists - Songs That Shaped The Beatles / Various - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Their fans' obsession with THE BEATLES is endless, and their earliest heroes and influences have long been endlessly scrutinised. Consequently, there have been any number of InchWho did 'em first?Inch-type compilations over the years, although many of them recycle the same fifty or sixty records. We've attempted to throw the net a bit wider, and introduce songs that other compilations may have missed. Among the perhaps familiar, expected names herein are Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Carl Perkins, Fats Domino, Gene Vincent, Ray Charles, Bill Haley & The Comets, Buddy Holly, etc. Perhaps a little less obvious are artists like Little Willie John, Bill Justis, The Jodimars, Emile Ford, The Drifters, The Johnny Burnette Trio, The Coasters, Billy Lee Riley, etc

Various Artists - Songs That Shaped The Animals / Various - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

The Animals Formed In Newcastle-Upon-Tyne During 1963, Their Original Line-Up Comprising Eric Burdon (Vocals), Alan Price (Keyboards), Hilton Valentine (Guitar), Bryan InchChasInch Chandler (Bass), And John Steel (Drums). Like Their Rivals On The UK's Early 60s Blues/R&B Circuit - I.E. The Stones, The Yardbirds, Them, Etc - The Animals Pretty Much Wore Their Hearts On Their Sleeves When It Came To Paying Homage To Their Heroes. Their Live Sets Drew On The Recorded Works Of Jimmy Reed, John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters, Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, Fats Domino, Etc., While Burdon Was Further Inspired By The Singing Of Men Like Big Joe Turner, Nappy Brown And The Mighty Ray Charles. This Unique Compilation Presents The Records That Inspired Many Of The Songs That They Recorded, Notably Bob Dylan's 'House Of The Rising Sun', Sam Cooke's 'Bring It On Home To Me' And Chuck Willis C.C. Rider'.

Various Artists - Era Records Northern Soul / Various - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

UK collection of hip Northern Soul stompers from the Era Records tag. Includes classic tracks as well as previously unissued gems. Including the HB Barnum-arranged 'Dance with Me' by Billy Watkins and excellent alternate readings of 'Stand There Mountain' and 'The Blue Shadow' that Herb Newman had cut on pop acts previously. There are Popcorn classics from the very colorful Bruce Cloud (check out the sleeve notes on him!) and the glamorous Carol Connors, while Steve Flanagan's Stafford monster 'I've Arrived' sounds great alongside Melvin Boyd's killer version of 'Exit Loneliness, Enter Love'.
