When our 'Koko Mojo', exploration began, you could imagine hickory wood burning in drums at southern shacks, where our blues artists would gather together eat BBQ meat and drink whiskey. The concept of these albums allowed us to delve deeply and mix a variety of wide-ranging black rhythm chosen by the theme of birth. The albums music mix as always is eclectic, we hear travelling blues boy Eddie Burns, a man who worked full time and music was for the evening 'Hot Shot' Love, and a highly educated member of Ike Turner's band, the Sly Fox, legend Muddy Waters serves up a pivotal rocking blues plea with Hammond organ not overpowering the song. Two artists Washboard Sam and Memphis Slim are present in duo recordings which they made with Mississippi Bred performers. We end this exploration with two artists who gained fame in the pop music charts Sam Cooke and Jerry Butler. The concept of these albums allows a variety of wide-ranging black music chosen by the theme of birth to be collected onto the albums. This makes the aural sound of the series different from that of a tag-based collection. The mixed variety of artists include hitmakers, Bobby Day, Ray Sharpe and Marie Adams from the Johnny Otis Show. Piano rockers are heard from; Roy Hawkins, Floyd Dixon, Ivory Joe Hunter, Charles Brown and Amos Milburn and chanteuse Camille Howard all of whom offer different techniques of keyboard playing. The Downhome Blues comes from traditional roots performers; Harmonica Slim and Lightnin' Hopkins. The guitar Blues artists include Pee Wee Crayton, Barbara Lynn, and Freddy King and with horns to drive the song along Cal Valentine and The Texas Rockers have a catchy hook in their instrumental tune. The album climaxes with the wild and raucous Blues rocker from Young Jessie. Together all the artists featured perform a variety of music and many styles of Roots music are featured on I'm Tore Down. As with every album, there is more music to hear and enjoy and the vibrant music has a pleasing up-tempo feel throughout. Unquestionably the aural feeling of this album is varied, full of hot recordings, and offers an eclectic assortment of recordings. The songs are not used in chronological order they are used to fit with the album and add a variety of sound. There are two solo recordings from the talented Richard Berry, one of which is as wild as anything by Little Richard and one recording with The Lockettes, all being from different years of his career, and the versatile Tommy Ridgley returns this time with a Rock 'n' Roll recording. Clarence InchGatemouthInch Brown provides an instrumental which Revival band The Blue Cats covered on their self-titled album in 1980. The riot of rhythm goes on to showcase R&B veterans; Rudy Green, Blind Billy Tate, Ray Johnson, Calvin Spears, Fat Man Matthews and The Four Kitten, Jay Nelson and His Jumpers. Both The Gondoliers and The Hawks contain important local musicians in their line-ups and the sleeve notes tell the story. Two R&B songstresses grace the album, Mickey Champion who has Jazz influences and Irma Thomas who became internationally famous from 1960 onwards with her changing approach to R&B.
