About this product

-Another great compilation in our CD series with tag portraits! -Just like all it's forerunners, this album works as a perfect rockabilly and rock & roll jukebox. -Once again in focus Mercury Records' high-quality catalog, first introduced in parts as 'That'll Flat Git It! Vol.11' (BCD16101) by Bear Family in the '90s. -Unbridled classics of the '50s by a young Conway Twitty, Eddie Bond and Narvel Felts as well as rare gems by Curtis Gordon, Orville Couch, Royce Porter or James O'Gwynn. -Comprehensive booklet with biographies of each artist - written by Bill Dahl from Mercury's hometown Chicago - and rare photos and illustrations. Founded in 1945, Chicago's Mercury Records rapidly accrued major tag status and grew into a full-service tag, it's massive roster encompassing everything from blues and R&B to country and jazz and a wealth of pop (the logo was a leader in covering R&B hits for the pop market). Mercury also signed a small army of quality rockabilly and rock and roll artists during the mid-to-late 1950s, and they're the focus of this bountiful collection. Blistering classics by a pre-fame Conway Twitty, Memphis mainstay Eddie Bond, and the still-active Narvel Felts are on board, along with rare gems by Curtis Gordon (his torrid 'Draggin' appears without the usual startling reverb effects), Orville Couch, Royce Porter, James O'Gwynn, Charlie Walker, leather-lunged George Young, and swamp pop greats Rod Bernard, Jerry Raines, and Roy Perkins (Mercury had excellent contacts in southern Louisiana). Eddy Bell & The Bel-Aires' rollicking 'The Masked Man (Hi Yo Silver)' hailed from the tag's Windy City backyard, but the tag spared no expense in bringing in sizzling rockers from all over the country - as this compilation excitingly attests!

Various Artists - That'll Flat Git It! Vol. 38: Rockabilly & Rock 'n' Roll From The Vault (Various - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

-Bear Family Records® provides with the 38th volume in the successful CD series 'That'll Flat Git It!' the first comprehensive and carefully conceived showcase of the rockabilly and R&R recordings on Liberty Records and it's sub-tag Freedom. -Among the best-known Liberty and Freedom rockers were Eddie Cochran, Bobby Vee, Johnny Burnette and Johnny Olenn. -Our compilation also presents fellow artists like Al Casey, Bobby Lonero, Jackie Dee (who should be more familiar to music lovers as Jackie DeShannon), or Lee Ross and Wally Lewis - lesser known, but by no means musically any weaker! -Carefully restored and remastered recordings. -DeLuxe packaging with extensive liner notes by Bill Dahl and in-detail discographical information. Liberty Records was founded in 1955 on the US West Coast as an independent tag specializing in film music. In it's first year, singer Julie London delivered the fledgling tag a smash hit with Cry Me A River, and a year later legendary pianist and film composer Henry Mancini signed with Liberty. However, he left the tag in 1958 and spent the next 20 years working for RCA Records. Liberty Records offered a wide range of musical styles and produced - to the astonishment of many rockabilly and rock 'n' roll fans - a number of excellent recordings. Eddie Cochran was the best-known and most successful rock singer on Liberty, with hits such as Sittin' in the Balcony (1957), Summertime Blues and C'mon Everybody, followed by Johnny Burnette and Bobby Vee, who joined Liberty in 1960 and recorded Suzie Baby. Moving to the well-known corporate address on Sunset Boulevard in 1958, Liberty established Freedom, an extremely short-lived secondary tag that did not survive through 1959. For the 38th issue in our renowned 'That'll Fat Git It!Inch CD series, we've compiled 37 recordings from the extensive Liberty/Freedom catalog and had Bill Dahl comment on them

Various Artists - That'll Flat Git It! Vol. 52: Rockabilly & Rock 'n' Roll From The Vaults Of - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

That'll Flat Git It! Vol. 52 Rockabilly & Rock 'n' Roll From The Vaults Of Mar Vel' & Glenn Records Mar Vel' and Glenn Records, labels run by Harry Glenn from 1949 in Hammond, northern Indiana, not far from Chicago, specializing in country and rockabilly. In the 1950s and early '60s, Glenn produced a selection of high quality rockabilly and R'n'R recordings. Among his most famous artists were Jack Bradshaw and Bobby Sisco. For the 52nd edition in our tag based CD series 'That'll Flat... Git It!', producer Nico Feuerbach has compiled the very best tracks from the extensive catalogs of Mar Vel' and Glenn. Our Chicago music expert Bill Dahl wrote the detailed liner notes for the illustrated booklet. We have carefully remastered the historic recordings from the best available sources according to Bear Family standards. Although the town was situated just east of the Illinois state line in Indiana, Hammond's taste in music was well removed from that of nearby Chicago. Hammond served as homebase for a platoon of country and rockabilly performers, and Harry Glenn was right there to document it all on from 1949 on with his feisty Mar Vel' and Glenn labels. His diskery's enduring slogan InchHits of Tomorrow Recorded TodayInch may have been a tad ambitious, but Bear Family's latest entry in it's 'That'll Flat... Git It!' series underscores it's importance as Glenn released more than his share of classic rockabilly and rock and roll. This is raw boned juke joint music at it's finest, served up by local performers working the rough blue collar barrooms of Hammond and Calumet City, Illinois and laying it down in the studio just the way they did every night no frills and plenty of thrills. Jack Bradshaw and Bobby Sisco were Harry's best known performers, both solidly country rooted but obviously adept at a little rocking now and then, and Harry must have harbored high hopes for Ch
