Various Artists - That'll Flat Git It Vol. 48: Rockabilly & Rock 'n' Roll From The Vault Of Starday - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

For the second time the seemingly endless rockabilly CD series on Bear Family Records® is dedicated to the amazing recordings from the Starday tag catalog. Launched as a country tag, Starday signed some of the most important artists of the genre in the mid-50s Sonny Fisher, George Jones, Rudy 'Tutti' Grayzell, Leon Payne, Frankie Miller and Sleepy LaBeef.. - Pappy Daily, Jack Starnes and Don Pierce initially intended their Starday tag to be a purely country endeavor. But as time went on and rockabilly exploded during the mid-'50s, Texas-based Starday embraced the exciting new music just as fervently. Starnes had dropped out by the time Starday fully took it's proactive stance, it's rockabilly output so bountiful that this is Bear Family's second collection devoted to it in recent months. Like it's predecessor, the CD is chock-full of savage rockers. A sizable amount of the company's slate was waxed in Houston at Gold Star Recording with a house band usually featuring Hal Harris on lead guitar, but by no means all. Some of these singers are legendary Sonny Fisher, George Jones (as Thumper Jones), Rudy 'Tutti' Grayzell, Leon Payne (under his own name as well as that of Rock Rogers), Frankie Miller, the imposing Sleepy LaBeff (as he spelled it then). But an equal percentage are primarily known to aficionados only - Rocky Bill Ford, Truitt Forse, Utah Carl, Ray and Lindy, Rocking Martin, Cliff Blakley, Fred Crawford, Rudy Gaddis, Fuzzy Whitener, Jack Kingston. Some of these obscure performances were culled from the archives of the Starday Custom Series, which allowed aspiring rockers marooned in the hinterlands to pay a nominal sum for 300 copies of their creations if they supplied their own master tapes. No matter the source, all 34 of these Starday tracks have one crucial thing in common just like the contents of Volume 1, they rock like crazy. Album Tracks 1.

Various Artists - That'll Flat Git It! Vol. 42: Rockabilly & Rock 'n' Roll From The Vaults (Various - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

The first of two CDs that feature recordings from Cincinnati's legendary King tag in the successful 'That'll Flat... Git It!' series of rock 'n' roll and rockabilly on Bear Family Records. Launched by Syd Nathan in late 1943, Cincinnati's King Records held a unique place within the postwar record industry it was equally prolific and successful in the rhythm and blues and country and western fields. That placed it in excellent stead when rockabilly broke out during the mid-1950s; young rocking talent abounded in the tri-state area surrounding Cincy (Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana), and King attracted the cream of the crop. King recorded so many rockabilly classics that it took two of Bear Family's 'That'll Flat... Git It!' volumes just to gather the highlights. Volume 1 includes seminal performances by tag mainstays Charlie Feathers, Mac Curtis, and piano-pounding Moon Mullican as well as rip-roaring obscurities by Hank Mizell (Jungle Rock), Dave Dudley (Rock And Roll Nursery Rhyme), Trini Lopez (a pre-fame Rock On), Bruce Channel, Hardrock Gunter, Delbert Barker, Rusty York, and Joe Penny. Boyd Bennett and His Rockets-King's answer to Bill Haley and His Comets-are here too, as are teen rockers Wes Voight and Fuller Todd and country stalwarts Luke McDaniel and Bob Newman. Album Tracks 1. Cecil McNabb Jr. - Clock Tickin' Rhythm 2. Delbert Barker - No Good - Robin Hood 3. Mac Curtis - Say So 4. Donnie White - Your Kind of Lovin' 5. Charlie Feathers - One Hand Loose 6. Hank Mizell - Jungle Rock 7. Ronnie Wade - Annie Don't Work 8. Trini Lopez - Rock on 9. Bob & Lucille - Eeny-Meeny Miney Mo 10. Bob Newman - Haulin' Freight 11. Bill Beach - You're Gonna Like My Baby 12. The Bon-Aires - Stop the World (Guitar Version) 13. Boyd Bennett and His Rockets - You Upset Me Baby 14. Moon Mullican - I'm Mad with You 15. Joe Penny - Bip a Little, Bop a

Vol. 41 Rockabilly & Rock 'n' Roll From The Vaults Of Dot & Hamilton-The 41th installment in our popular CD series 'That'll Flat Git It!' featuring selections from the R'n'R and rockabilly catalogs of U.S. record labels is dedicated to Dot Records, a company otherwise known for pop covers of R&B hits. -For Bear Family Records®, Nico Feuerbach has selected an incredible 37 titles! -Well-known names like Leroy Van Dyke, Sanford Clark or Robin Luke share the job with lesser-known peers like Prentis Slade, Billy Joe Tucker, Ned Costner, a.m.o. -Extensive liner notes in the comprehensive illustrated booklet and meticulous mastering from the best accessible sources round out this . -Another highlight in this far from finished series and a recommendation for all R'n'R and Rockabilly fans! Although the tag tends to be best-known for it's pop covers of '50s R&B hits, Randy Wood's Dot Records with it's subsidiary Hamilton Records also issued more than it's share of legitimate rockabilly and rock and roll. Bear Family Records®' latest entry in it's 'That'll Flat Git It!' series salutes that side of the company's voluminous slate, bringing together no less than 37 selections by a vast array of artists both well-known (Leroy Van Dyke, Jim Lowe, Sanford Clark, Jimmy Newman, Robin Luke) and demonstrably obscure (Prentis Slade, Billy Joe Tucker, Ned Costner, Keith Courvale, Tommy Danton & The Echoes), each one a winner. The Nighthawks' original When Sin Stops, Mac Wiseman's Hey, Mr. Blues Man, raspy-voiced Jimmy Dee and The Offbeats' Don't Cry No More and Here I Come, Tom Blair & The West Coasters' Rock It, and Sonny Curtis' A Pretty Girl underscore the wide-ranging artist roster that Dot amassed (the tag commenced operations in Gallatin, Tennessee before relocating to Hollywood in 1957). Veteran pop crooner Snooky Lanson proves he could rock on Stop (Let Me
