Various Artists - The Sound Of Sound - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Introducing Foglights - a new musical venture formed by Eva Cord (The Cords) & Stone Anthem. The project channels restless energy into washed-out guitars, hypnotic melodies, and lyricism that cuts straight through the noise. Combining elements of both of their music, the psychedelia and denseness of Stone Anthem and the twee, heartfelt indie pop of The Cords. The duo reflect their relationship within the music, being two differing artists with the same vision to create from the heart with honesty and vulnerability. Foglights blur the line between clarity and distortion, fragments of melody, tension-filled, hopeful folk-like pop soundscapes, and vocals that feel half-confession, half-transmission. Their sound of their debut EP InchNous DeuxInch is controlled but unpredictable, pulling listeners into something dark but equally blissful and immersive, difficult to pin down. Shining the lights through the darkness. For fans of The Softies, Velvet Underground, Spacemen 3, Spiritualized, Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Pastels

Sounds of New Music is a collection of 18 compositions from the 1920s to the mid-1950s representing attempts at a new means of musical expression. Some use familiar instruments in new ways, while others experiment with new instruments; the formats of the compositions range from structured musical scores written for orchestra to electronically altered music using tape-recording devices. Composers include Edgard Varese, Henry Cowell, and John Cage, whose Dance is played on a transformed Steinway piano that gives the music an almost primitive quality. Liner notes describing the new music feature a substantial article on Concrete Music.
