About this product

We usually say that an ancient event InchoccurredInch or Inchtook placeInch. How should we, therefore, refer to a musical piece? It InchexistedInch, but, more importantly, it still InchexistsInch. The past creates the present. No matter how thoroughly we seem to know it, early music always remains a mystery. It prevents us from unveiling it completely, creating extensive areas of indefinition. Thus, a great and important adventure begins - filling the vague spots, affected by the reader's imagination, curiosity and care for encompassing the truth. By engaging in a dialogue with the music of the past, we take a clear stand towards it. Creative conversation leads to new content. The album includes 12 pieces arranged in pairs a composition by Waclaw z Szamotul opposite to a contemporary piece inspired by it. Independent, nearly unrestricted composing decisions representing today's reference to the music from five centuries back. The decisions result in a clash of new harmonics with raw Renaissance sounds and in the introduction of disturbing mood in lieu of certainty and hope, playing with imitation and recurrence of themes and intensive metric variability; they result in the use of Latin instead of original Polish and in the surprising resignation from the recognized title. The contemporary composers boost the narration or, on the contrary, slow it down, allowing us to almost hear and touch the light sparkling in vibrating intervals and warm chords. At the same time, the album presents an innovative interpretation of the work of Waclaw z Szamotul presented by it's performers. On the one hand, the interpretation pays respect to historically informed performances and, on the other, expresses the awareness that the present has it's own rights, therefore the interpretation presented today becomes more InchcontemporaryInch than InchRenaissanceInch.

Various Artists - Reimagine - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Acclaimed pianist Inna Faliks breaks new ground with REIMAGINED on Navona Records, an homage to Beethoven and Ravel which manages to do the impossible be breathtakingly innovative while remaining respectful to the source material. Nine contemporary composers, including Richard Danielpour, Paola Prestini, Billy Childs, and Timo Andres, were commissioned to craft responses to Ludwig van Beethoven's Bagatelles, op. 126 (incidentally, the master's favorite) as well as Maurice Ravel's Gaspard de la Nuit. The results are exhilarating, not least owing to Faliks's stunningly precise and sensitive pianistic interpretation the Ukrainian-born American pianist ties together Classical, Romantic and modern pieces with disarming nonchalance and rock-solid technical skill. Defying the challenge of uniting three centuries of musical styles and social commentary, as well as producing an album during a global pandemic with the help of Yamaha's Disklavier technology, REIMAGINED proudly raises a monument not only to the genius of Beethoven and Ravel, but also to the perseverance and verve of some of today's most exciting and important composers.

Various - Guitar Works - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco was one of Italy's most influential and important composers during the 20th century. He was inspired to write for the guitar after meeting Andrés Segovia, and in the years that followed he wrote over one hundred works for the instrument. The Quintet for Guitar and String Quartet, a rare combination, reveals perfect sonority and construction with a serene Iberian mood. The Sonatina for Flute and Guitar contrasts joyfulness with poignant melodies, while the Eclogues are bucolic and lively. Written for Segovia and his wife Paquita Madriguera, the Fantasia for guitar and piano presents an expertly blended texture for this combination of instruments. Guitarist Leonard Becker is the Second Prize winner of the International Hannabach Guitar Competition 2020, held in Augsburg, Germany. He has performed with orchestras including the Pilsen Philharmonic Orchestra, with which he performed Rodrigo Concierto de Aranjuezin 2019. Alongside Louis Vandory, Valerie Steenken, Elisabeth Buchner and Márton Braun he is the founder of the Tedesco-Quintett (guitar and string quartet), which won First Prize at the International Chamber Music Competition 'Gerhard Vogt' in 2019.
