Various - Liebeslieder-Walzer - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

The first piece composed by Max Bruch during his child prodigy years was a song, and the Five Songs op. 97 number among the last creations with which he closed the files on his long artist's life shortly after World War I. This fact alone would suffice to make us understand the great value attached to song - whether of vocal or instrumental nature - in the oeuvre of this lifelong Romanticist. From the peppy male chorus to the full-length colossal oratorio, from the Loreley to the immortal cantilenas of his Violin Concerto No. 1, Scottish Fantasy, and Kol Nidrei, he sang out his songs to his heart's content while revealing lyrical qualities that come to light in special measure in his collections of solo songs distributed over the entire course of his career - a fact underscored by the Austrian baritone and his piano partner Sascha El Mouissi on this new and so far absolutely unique anthology. Along with delightful tidbits from all of Bruch's compositional periods, we are presenting the five songs from Paul Heyse's novella Siechentrost for One to Four Voice Parts, Violin, and Piano op. 54. Max Bruch's musical setting produced not only an original piece of chamber music but also an intimate look at his self-understanding and his goals. Behind their creator's blustery façade there was also a man of tender, vulnerable character!

Dora Delyska writes InchA waltz is a simple dance, a gentle movement. It has a clear structure and distinct rhythm. In my project InchAlles Walzer, einmal anders!Inch I have tried to build up a complex program around the simplicity of the dance. All the pieces are connected to the waltz, by name, rhythm or a sound image. But each one has an individual structure and creates it's own universe of emotions. The significant waltzing rhythm (¾ time) is the core, that unites all the compositions from beginning till the very last piece, which creates a clear musical line and a feeling of completeness. The first association one has with a waltz and maybe the most famous one, is the Viennese one - moving gently, in elegant clothing, the dancing couple is driven by the inner pulsation of the waltz. The phrase InchAlles WalzerInch is being said just before the couple enters the dance floor and marks the beginning of the waltz (in Austria). It is the brief moment when expectation turns into action, when silence melts into the music. The second part of the title Incheinmal andersInch (once on a different way) refers to the different side of the waltz, that is represented on this by less known compositions, such as waltzes by Ligeti, Bartok and Debussy. My album has the goal to show a different perspective of the waltz and bring the audience to an unexpected musical journey, full of strong emotions and distinct rhythm.

Like the Occitan troubadours and the trouvères of northern France, the Minnesänger celebrated courtly love and gave medieval German it's letters of nobility. These Inchsingers of loveInch - Minne is the old German word for love - thus perpetuated a poetic and musical tradition that had begun nearly two centuries earlier in Occitania. The Minnesänger, generally of noble and knightly blood, gradually emancipated themselves from their French models and developed their own styles and forms during the 13th century. We should, however, make a clear distinction between Minnesangand Spruchsang, given that they both existed within the German song genre during the high and late Middle Ages. The two disciplines differed not only in theme and form, but also in their creators Minnesang was generally the dilettante love poetry of courtly nobility, while Spruchsang was practiced by travelling professional poets and singers. The present program offers a foray through these creative periods and of the Spruchsang in particular no less than six of the twelve old masters are represented here, notably Konrad von Würzburg, Frauenlob, Brother Wernher, Konrad Marner, Tannhäuser and Walther von der Vogelweide.
