About this product
The Veldt, the pioneering American alternative soul and shoegaze group formed in 1986 by identical twins Daniel Chavis and Danny Chavis in Raleigh, North Carolina, has long stood as one of the most visionary and genre-defying bands of their era. Joined by David Burris and Marvin Levi, the group quickly developed a sound that blended ethereal guitar textures with deep R&B roots, creating a style that would influence generations of artists to come. After signing with Capitol Records in 1989, The Veldt toured extensively across the United States, sharing stages with The Jesus and Mary Chain and Cocteau Twins. Ray Shulman, known for his work with Björk, The Sugarcubes and The Sundays, produced their landmark 1994 album Afrodisiac, a record now recognized as a bold fusion of shoegaze, soul and Afro-alternative rock-an album so ahead of it's time that it continues to resonate with new listeners decades later. Now, Afrodisiac is available for the first time as a deluxe 2LP vinyl edition. This brings renewed depth and warmth to the album's swirling guitars, velvet-rich vocals and hypnotic rhythms, presenting the music with a clarity that highlights just how innovative The Veldt's sound truly was. The set also includes two essential remixes of InchSoul In The JarInch-one by The Jesus and Mary Chain, who drench the track in their signature haze of distortion, and another by hip-hop pioneer Diamond D, whose rugged Guitar Remix adds a head-nodding edge that reframes the song's emotional core. The album's legacy has only grown over time. Pitchfork named Afrodisiac one of the top 50 shoegaze albums ever released, while Stereogum included the single InchUntil You're ForeverInch among the 31 essential tracks of the genre, further cementing The Veldt's status as foundational innovators. Afrodisiac is available for the first time as a 2LP 180g black vinyl edition, including an insert

![Xu Schrama - Works for Viola & Harp - COMPACT DISCS [CD]](https://pisces.bbystatic.com/image2/BestBuy_US/images/products/c634691e-0358-485a-982c-4fcb78cbd15d.jpg;maxHeight=422;maxWidth=264?format=webp)
... varied in style, very sprightly in parts and energetic; it uses modal melodic technique. What is particularly interesting is the fact that each instrument, viola and harp, is given virtually equal weighting. Peijun Xu was born in Shanghai and is one of the leading violists of her generation. She has guested as a soloist at famous venues such as the Shanghai Concert Hall, Laeiszhalle Hamburg and the Alte Oper in Frankfurt. She has played with many orchestras including the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra, the Moscow Soloists, Konzerthaus Orchester Berlin, Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, the Hof Symphonic, Philharmonie Baden-Baden, the Württemberg Chamber Orchestra of Heilbronn. Godelieve Schrama plays chamber music at events, such as the Orlando Festival, the Delft Chamber Music Festival and the Musikertage Mondsee summer festival in Austria's Salzkammergut region. At these events, she makes music with the likes of flautists Emily Beynon and Andrea Lieberknecht, the Auryn String Quartet, Quatuor Danel, violinists Isabelle van Keulen, Liza Ferschtman and organist Tomasz Adam Nowak.

Velvert Turner is largely known for being a protégé and student of Jimi Hendrix, who he met as a teenager in New York in the late '60s. The influence is immediately clear, with respect to both Turner's guitar work and vocals. Some have even mistaken his only album for a InchlostInch Hendrix recording. Velvert Turner Group's self-titled 1972 , which aptly closes with a tribute to Hendrix (a cover of InchFreedomInch), is now back on vinyl, remastered by Dave Gardner. This reissue features an alternate mix of the first song, InchMadonna (of the Seven Moons)Inch, as a bonus track.

*Oakland, California-based ensemble Orchestra Gold offers up a kaleidoscope of sound deeply rooted in the Malian tradition while introducing a genre-bending nod to the future through their rare and artful fusion of African Psychedelic Rock. Spearheaded by the dynamic MARIAM DIAKITE, whose raw and hypnotic vocal stylings deliver heartfelt and thought-provoking lyrics in the highly symbolic Bambara language. While paying homage to Malian musical traditions, this fierce new sound is supported by heavy swinging rhythms, a funky fresh brass section and cosmic guitar licks. InchMali's musical heritage is vast... and Mariam's voice channels that history.Inch-Banning Eyre, Senior Editor Afropop Worldwide.
