Equal parts melancholy and glitter, Chateau Chateau is an evolving community of musicians from Tuscon, Arizona making cathartic indie pop for weirdos, outcasts, queer folks, and anyone else who needs it. Formed in 2018, the band is led by Bleu and Alex, a DIY-minded duo who transform things that are Inchtraditionally ugly, abstract, and leftoverInch into new shiny and special forms. Although their songs explore dark subjects like mental illness, addiction, and trauma, Chateau Chateau channel their anguish into upbeat, danceable tracks packed with grim humor and messages of resilience.Grow Up, the band's debut for Kill Rock Stars, tells the Inchcoming of age storyInch of frontperson Bleu, who dedicates each song to different toxic relationships throughout her life and how she found herself growing up through each experience. Embracing thetheme that age is a challenging force, but ultimately positive sonically the band have written something light and catchy that reinforces their pop sensibilities but ambitiously builds on the lyrical word-play, intertwining guitars and off kilter time signatures of their debut. Drawing on a much wider range of influences than the last record, from The Breeders through to The Cars, the band have been more playful in their compositions; still referencing their 90's influenced roots but reaching wider to create something unmistakably classic sounding but irresistibly modern01. Via were a late-1980s postpunk band formed in Boston by Thalia Zedek (Come, Uzi) and Jerry di Rienzo (Cell, Nuclear Theater), with James Apt (Six Finger Satellite), Adam Gaynor (Nuclear Theater) and Phil Milstein. The stuff of indie rock legend, the band recorded a handful of songs and played two blistering shows before splintering, the band members going their own ways, with Zedek and diRienzo forming the legendary Come and Cell. This archival project presents a recently-unearthed collection of six songs recorded in a basement studio in 1987. The only recorded output from the band, listening is like opening a time capsule, fresh songs from indie rock legends just beginning to discover themselves. Liner notes by Chris Brokaw (Come, Codeine), who says InchThe music bears some cosmetic resemblances to Sonic Youth, but the songs were way more raw, primal, seething, coiled - inexorable. I still can't get over it.Inch
