Vicente Coves - Latin American Music for Guitar - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

This recording presents a selection of some of the least and the best known exponents of twentieth century Latin-American guitar repertoire.

Premiere recordings, with one exception, fill this Grand Piano of music by the French jazz legend, pianist, conductor and composer Martial Solal. French pianist Eric Ferrand-N'Kaoua, (pronounced Enkawa) is the featured artist on all 21 tracks, the last a duo with thee composer. His eclectic repertoire allows him to blend Bach's Goldberg Variations, or the Berlioz-Liszt Symphonie fantastique with jazz-inspired pieces on the same concert program. Mr. Solal entrusted him with both the role of soloist in his concerto 'Echanges', and the recording of the works on this album.

Pianist Oscar Macchioni, a native of Argentina, is a passionate performer of Latin American music. His diverse repertoire, taking in musical styles and composers of all periods, from Soler and Brahms to Piazzolla and Bolcom, is brought into high relief on Latin-American Duos, in partnership with violinist Mark Schuppener. Together, they offer a program of works that includes a trifecta of pieces by the great 20th c. Argentinean composer Astor Piazzolla, two by the Mexican Manuel Ponce, as well as works by Guastavino, Floro M. Ugarte, and William Bolcom, elder statesman of American composers.
