This is a production review of the Viewsonic VP2771, delivered on 12/20/2019.
Delivery : Time - via UPS, 3 days ahead of original scheduled date. Thnx! Quality - signature required, box is clean and undamaged.
Product setup : easy to follow quick setup guide.
Cables included : Mini DP to DP, USB-A to USB-B, thick, high quality.
What's not included: regular HDMI to HDMI, regular DP-DP cable. So if you do not have these regular cables, and your PC/laptop does not have a mini DP port, then you would need to buy a HDMI or DP cable.
Note: There is no VGA port -- I think it is because the VGA cable cannot display images larger than 1920x1080. At least that is what the user guide for my old corporate laptop says: that in order to get higher than FHD resolution, the Display Port is required.
I happened to have the required cable, so I got connected with no issue.
The screen is just gorgeous. The main use of this monitor would be for MS Word document editing and ssh terminals for now. I know, this screen is overkill for this use. One could have gotten a cheaper monitor to do just that.....but a good monitor can be used for a long time, and its purpose can be changed later on.
I had a FHD 27" monitor, but found myself flipping windows too often. Needed a QHD for more elbow room. I also have a work setup where my main laptop is off to the right, and sometimes I have another laptop right in front of me. Thus the need for a monitor that stands taller, so that the bottom portion of its screen is not blocked by the frontal laptop's screen.
Thus I searched for 27", height adjustable, QHD resolution, and came to decide on this VP2771. I've used Viewsonic monitors before and like their display quality.
I also bought the extended warranty for insurance against workmanship, cus a product might get great reviews but you might get a bad one off the assembly line.
This monitor has been powered on for less than 4 hrs, so we'll see how it does in terms of reliability, and how BB's 4 yr replacement warranty deals with situations.
Cost/Value: Well, BB sells it for less than what Viewsonic wants on the manufacturer's website. Also, the other cheaper brands/models don't have the USB-C port. I have two devices that can make use of this port, and my own experience from previous monitor purchases is that money spent on a quality monitor is one of the best investment one can make. You have to stare at it for very long periods of time, and it will easily pay for itself over the course of time.
