About this product
2017 . For Homecoming, there was only one guideline All compositions had to be by Vince Mendoza. The second condition was set by the Vince himself He wanted to use only newly written pieces - and it goes without saying - they were made to measure for the WDR Big Band. The band appreciated his high level of commitment. The recording shows, that permanently employed musicians of a broadcasting house orchestra, working in a well-organized setting, are not necessarily just Inchfinishing a projectInch but can be inspired and at ease when performing. There is no hint of this tiring theme/solo/solo/solo/theme-pattern as Vince Mendoza is a true master of the organic form and the musical arc, a master of densely interwoven musical thoughts. The six- to nine minutes long compositions are complex and intensive without being excessive - on the contrary the music breathes.

Saxophonist, educator and composer Kareem Kandi is one of the hardest working (and playing) jazz musicians around - regularly logging 5-7 gigs per week. A native of the Pacific Northwest, Kandi is in high demand for his talents both on and off the stage. With strong roots in the traditions of jazz, blues, classical and funk, he has been performing on the scene for years, gaining attention from critics and audiences alike. While staying true to musical styles of the past, he also keeps an eye towards the future by composing original music as well as new arrangements of timeless songs from the great American songbook. Inchlooking forward to following Kandi's jazz career... this young saxophonist will be having a major impact on the Pacific Northwest jazz scene.Inch
