The pianist Violina Petrychenko is a tireless and convincing ambassador of Ukrainian music. Through her initiative, numerous works from her homeland have been made known to a wider international public. Together with the Lviv National Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Volodymyr Syvokhip, she presents piano concertos by her compatriots Vasyl Barvinsky (1888-1963) and Viktor Kosenko (1896-1938) Each of them is an important milestone in Ukrainian music history, but unfortunately they have received little attention in the West. Album Tracks 1. Piano Concerto in F minor 2. Piano Concerto in C minor, Op. 23~Allegro (C minor) 3. Piano Concerto in C minor, Op. 23~Andante con moto (F minor) 4. Piano Concerto in C minor, Op. 23~Allegro moderato (C major)

Boris Lyatoshynsky was a leading member of a new generation of Ukrainian composers that emerged in the 1920s. His expansively conceived Ukrainian Quintet finds him at his most emotionally overt, with a heartfelt Lento e tranquillo second movement. Dedicated to Lyatoshynsky, Valentin Silvestrov's Piano Quintet dates from the start of his Modernist odyssey of the 1960s, while Victoria Poleva's withdrawn and secretive Simurgh-quintet is part of a style that embraces spiritual themes and musical simplicity defined as 'sacred minimalism'. Album Tracks 1. Ukrainian Quintet, Op. 42 2. Piano Quintet (To Boris Lyatoshynsky) 3. Simurgh-Quintet
