Only worked the first time it was used

Our Vitamix worked the first time my wife used it, but the food processor attachment never worked after that - the base, which has the motor, doesn't detect it, no matter what we do. It also doesn't always detect the blender top consistently, but we can get it working after fiddling with the controls a bit. Unfortunately, we are past the return period, so we're stuck with a partially working blender. At least it's not as loud as our previous Vitamix blender, which still works fine after many years of use.
