Vivaldi - Concerti E Trii Con M - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Marina Tarasovais one of the most renowned cellists, who has garnered an international following through her numerous recordings on Alto, Musical Concepts, Divine Art, and Northern Flowers. Her newest recording showcases the cello sonatas of Russian futurist composer Nikolai Roslavets. Written during the first years of the Russian Revolution, the sonatas are unabashedly modern, eschewing traditional form in favor of brash extended harmonies and rhapsodic form, deeply influenced by the music of Scriabin. The program also includes works from the same period by fellow Russian futurist Alexander Mosolov and the then-young Gavriil Popov, as well as Scriabin's Romance for Cello and Piano - a high-intensity virtuoso romantic tour-de-force. Album Tracks 1. Cello Sonata No. 1 2. Cello Sonata No. 2 3. Meditation 4. Dances of the White Maidens 5. Legend, Op. 5 6. Elegy 7. Melody, Op. 1 8. Romance in a Minor, W21

The London Choral Sinfonia and director Michael Waldron are joined for their latest recording by baritone Roderick Williams, tenor Andrew Staples and violinist Elena Urioste. The album opens with the Five Mystical Songs by Ralph Vaughan Williams. These hypnotically beautiful songs are staples of the repertoire but have never before been recorded in this version for voice, choir, piano and strings - an arrangement made by Vaughan Williams himself. Roderick Williams, indisputably one of the finest baritones in the world, delivers a mesmerizing interpretation on this recording. Tenor Andrew Staples beguiles in his performance of Lennox Berkeley's Variations on a Hymn by Orlando Gibbons, also never recorded before. First performed at the Aldeburgh Festival almost exactly 70 years ago, this piece may have been a secret love letter to Britten, who thought the work a Inchlovely pieceInch. The album is completed by the first new recording of Warlock's Capriol Suite in some time, and by star violinist Elena Urioste - known to Orchid listeners from The Jukebox Album - performing an exquisite arrangement of Vaughan Williams's ethereal masterpiece The Lark Ascending. Album Tracks 1. Five Mystical Songs 2. Variations on a Hymn By Orlando Gibbons, Op.35 3. Capriol Suite 4. The Lark Ascending
