Value Void - Sentimental - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

London trio Value Void are an offbeat proposition. Paz Maddio and Marta Zabala grew up with each other south of Buenos Aires, where the seeds of this project were sown. Marta first came to London on tour with art punks Los Cripis, where she met Luke Tristram (of Cop, Score and Owner) who released their record via his Unwork tag. Paz followed to join them and scrape rent from the city's bars and cafes. By early 2017 the three of them were holed up in practice rooms, Luke adding Evens-esque basslines that laid concrete to their minimalist guitar-lead pop songs. In April of that year, they recorded with Euan Hinshelwood of Young Husband at TVT. The intention was casual but the results, seven dazzlingly assured songs nailed in a couple of days, sucked attention from several quarters as they skipped between hard drives. Upon deciding to flesh the songs out for a full length, they returned to TVT studios with Euan in April this year, tweaking the mix and laying down two new songs InchMind,Inch a down tempo lullaby/lament in which the band track into the territory of early St. Vincent, Grouper or Julianna Barwick, supported by a raw dirge that blossoms in feedback, and InchThe Deluge,Inch which is also reflective but structured by a roaming curiosity and big chorus seeking road movie oblivion. The album is instantly affecting, with an ease and clarity that suits the elegance of the lyrics coded love songs and cool reflections on life which are all the more vulnerable and touching sung in Paz Maddio's lilting, ultrachromatic voice - a ceramic-sharp diagonal transatlantic on a pure open tone, with subtle waves of vibrato at it's top end. It's a particular heart breaker on tracks such as InchBabelandInch and InchDead Ladies LamentInch. Restricted to a palette of drums, bass, guitar and double tracked vocals caught on 2Inch tape, coloured here and there with a daub of feedback

Over the Voids - Over The Voids - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

2017 from this band led by the live basist/vocalist of Polish MGLA. Over the Voids was founded on one man's vision of a mid-nineties black metal revival. However, this work of art far transcends simple nostalgia or tributes paid to ages past; while many bands are content with leading an existence as living homages to other people's innovations, this solo project has an entirely different intensity to it's artistic fire. The musical and lyrical aspects along with their aesthetic representation are forged in synergy to ponder the riddles of mortality. Commanding the centre of attention is the distinctly mixed twin-guitars, acting much like a conductor's baton as they dictate where to bring the music and it's accompanying mood. The melodies are the focal point, merging the icy darkness of Transylvanian Hunger with the dreamy woodland landscapes of Bergtatt. Despite the catchy melodies, Over the Voids is more the type of music to which one would drift on some flight of the mind, rather than bang one's head. For fans of MGLA, Kriegsmaschine, early Ulver, early Satyricon, and early Emperor. Mixed and mastered by M. of MGLA. Album Tracks 1. Battle of Heaven 2. Ghosts Lay Eggs 3. Prophet of the Winter 4. Never Again Will They Hunger

Black Void - Antithesis - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Black Void is nihilistic aggression and desperation in the form of music. Furious and unrepentant in attitude, it builds on the philosophical works of Friedrich Nietzsche, burning with the filthy flame of punk and black metal. InchWhen it's impossible to find a starting point for knowledge, how can there be any kind of ethics? How can anyone argue that morality exists? How can we claim to know anything at all?Inch In the midst of this dirty metaphysical whirlwind stands vocalist and bass player Lars Are Nedland, longtime member of Borknagar and Solefald, and the driving force of melodic hard rock band White Void. Spearheading a trio completed by drummer Tobias Solbakk (Ihsahn, White Void, In Vain) and guitarist Jostein Thomassen (Borknagar, Profane Burial), he sets the stage for Black Void to be everything that White Void is not Monochrome, nihilistic, filthy, violent and raw. Black Void, then, is the flipside of White Void A full-on rejection of the philosophy of Albert Camus, a fullon rejection of a soft, melodic approach in music and a full-on rejection of a playful, tongue-in-cheek attitude. Black Void has the sensitivity of a buzz-saw and the light-heartedness of a funeral agent. With that as a backdrop, InchAntithesisInch becomes an album that pays respect to fifty years of punk and forty years of black metal, sounding like a punk with a mohawk fighting a dude in corpsepaint as it races along. Add to that guest vocal appearances by black metal royalties Sakis Tolis of Rotting Christ and Hoest of Taake, InchAntithesisInch appears as a statement of sorts A nihilistic musical outburst flipping off morality and hailing aggression while at the same time forcing your foot to tap to it's relentless drive. It's all in the black and white. TRACKLISTING 1 Void 2 Reject Everything 3 Death to Morality 4 Tenebrism of Life 5 No Right, No Wrong 6 It's not Surgery, it's a Kn
