Volti - House of Voices - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Summary, the series, is an attempt to reverse the wunderkind principle. Instead of pandering to the musical world along the lines of Inchfaster, higher, furtherInch by serving up younger and younger artists each year, here we ask the question InchAs an artist grows in years and maturity, how does his or her view of musical works alter? Do some criteria become less important which maybe were taken too seriously in earlier years? Have new ones come along?Inch Volume 1 The Bartok Quartet founded in 1957!

John Rutter writes InchRevisiting this 1993 Cambridge Singers recording, I realize I should never have withdrawn it from the Collegium catalogue - and all because of an obscure musicological question in my mind over a Gregorian chant, long since resolved. We assembled a stellar team of forty voices, offering a sumptuous programme of music for multiple choirs, with the dazzling Tallis 40-part motet as the centerpiece. Allegri's Miserere, now a firmer audience favorite than ever, and the most magnificent of Bach's six motets, Singet dem Herrn, are among the other choral masterpieces featured on an album that truly is a banquet of voices. For the first time, modern digital sound restoration has allowed the music to be heard in it's full sonic splendor, and we are confident the album will once again take it's place in the treasured family of Cambridge Singers recordings.Inch

An ensemble comprising oboe, bassoon and pianoforte is certainly the offspring of the violin-cello-pianoforte trio but produces a wonderful sound world all it's own, combining the three instruments perfectly. Which is why the Linguaggi Sonori Ensemble commissioned a series of trios from a number of contemporary Italian composers in order to explore the range of sounds which this lineup is capable of producing and to enrich the repertoire for it. The result is instrumental timbres and compositional techniques owing something to the twentieth-century avantgarde or to Minimalism in their own right, yet more often than not is a fusion of these elements resulting in something new and exciting from the combination of oboe, bassoon and pianoforte.
