A: Hello Vern, It must be particle board. I am basing this on the price paid. I did pay extra for the technicians to assemble the unit. (very smart move on my part) The unit is large as I have a 75' SONY mounted on top. I will tell you that the unit is solid and quite attractive. It also passed my wife's QC test. I do give it 5 Star. A: Hi Robin, There are 3 cable cutouts on this item, one at the back of each section. They are difficult to see in the pictures because they are located at the top of each shelf. But they're there! Hope that helps in making your decision!
