Bruno Walter - Bruno Walter Conducts the NBC Symphony Orchestra - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

2010 archive . This performance of Mahler First, by Mahler's protégé Bruno Walter, followed close upon the great Viennese live recordings of Das Lied von der Erde and the Ninth, all three are in Walter's pre-war mercurial and passionate style. A must for admirers of the conductor who had heard Mahler himself play and conduct the symphony, and who had done perhaps more than any other musician of his time to promote the work of this composer. A previously unreleased complete concert in excellent sound. Album Tracks 1. A Faust Overture, for Orchestra in D minor, WWV 59 2. Siegfried Idyll, for Small Orchestra in E Major, WWV 103 3. Symphony No. 1 in D Major ('Titan') 1. Langsam, Schleppend, Wie Ein Naturlaut 4. Symphony No. 1 in D Major ('Titan') 2. Kräftig Bewegt, Doch Nicht Zu Schnell 5. Symphony No. 1 in D Major ('Titan') 3. Feierlich Und Gemessen, Ohne Zu Schleppen 6. Symphony No. 1 in D Major ('Titan') 4. Stürmisch Bewegt 7. Applause

R. Wagner - Bruno Walter Conducts the Philharmonic Society - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Captured here in excellent sound is Walter's penultimate concert with the Philharmonic before he retired as it's guest conductor (Carnegie Hall, 10 February, 1957). The Idyll was a work much loved by Walter, and he recorded it in the studio six times during his career. This is an expansive performance, played with fervor and great transparency of detail. Walter used the Orel edition of Bruckner's original version, with his own changes and was one of Walter's specialties. This concert has never before been issued in any ; it is released in excellent sound with detailed notes by Mark Kluge, program annotator for the Chicago Symphony. Album Tracks 1. Ruhig Bewegt 2. Feirlich Misterioso 3. Scherzo Bewegt Lebhaft Trio Schnell 4. Adagio Langsam Feierlich
