About this product
From the deep woods now emerges Birna, Wardruna's sixth studio album, scheduled for January 24, 2025 through Sony Music and By Norse Music. Through his never resting dialogue with nature, main composer Einar Selvik has been searching for the voice of the bear. Birna - the she-bear in Old Norse - is a work of art dedicated to the warden of the forest, nature's caretaker, and her battles here on earth. Slowly driven out of her habitat by modern day societies, she has entered a stage of permanent hibernation. As a result, the forest is gradually dying, longing for it's pulse and heart - it's shepherd. Birna calls for her return. The bear frequently figures in the oldest myths of mankind in the northern hemisphere, and many indigenous people still regard this animal as a totem, honouring it with rites and songs. Instruments and wisdom from ancient times, coupled with modern day soundscapes and recorded sounds of nature, provide a rare opportunity to tell us something valuable about ourselves. It works as a reminder that we are part of nature, not above it, and it offers a way of remembering, not for memory's own sake, but to gain both new and forgotten insights. Album Tracks 1. Hertan 2. Birna 3. Ljos Til Jord 4. Dvaledraumar 5. Jord Til Ljos 6. Himinndotter 7. Hibjørnen 8. Skuggehesten 9. Tretale 10. Lyfjaberg

Vinyl LP pressing. 2012 from the Icelandic outfit formed by singer/guitarist Nanna Bryndís Hilmarsdóttir. Their rapid rise transpired in just one year. Nanna, who began as the acoustic act Songbird, recruited extra hands to bolster her sound for a solo show. As victors of 2010's Músiktilraunir, the new group earned a slot on the influential Iceland Airwaves festival later that year, followed by Seattle's radio station KEXP posting InchLittle TalksInch from a Living Room Session filmed there, setting the telltale ripple effect in motion. Though their reach is growing broader, the group's appeal has remained distinct Their music is as fantastical as it is pretty. Album Tracks 1. Dirty Paws 2. King and Lionheart 3. Mountain Sound 4. Slow and Steady 5. From Finner 6. Little Talks 7. Six Weeks 8. Love Love Love 9. Your Bones 10. Sloom 11. Lakehouse 12. Yellow Light
