About this product
Vinyl LP pressing. 2024 . Wayne Graham (the band) has long been at the forefront of the new movement of artists shaping the New Appalachian Sound - shaped by tradition, but intentionally set on forging a new sonic landscape. The new album, Bastion firmly establishes them as the architects of a new sound coming from the region. The songs on the album are treated like the complex feelings we feel, vague and cloaked in mystery, or sometimes blunt and pleading for change. Different instruments wash in and out like a stream of thoughts; some soothing, some disruptive. Year after year, our perspectives unravel into new version after new version, losing vital information with each update. The songs on this record speak to the forgetting. The name or phrase on the tip of our tongue that we can't say, because it's hiding in our mind behind a worry or distraction. InchBecause every song starts as a question, we attempt to avoid the urge to find an answer, and we ask more questions.Inch When nothing is Inch100%Inch anything, then what is concrete enough to define fully? No definitions here, just ideas with no value outside of their real time impact on the thinker. No promise of understanding, and all you can do is sing.

Recorded in summer of 1994 at S.H.P studios (frontman Graham Lambkin's parents' home), the group's sophomore record Put the Music in It's Coffin is a more sinister, saturnine affair than their debut City Lights. From the get-go, the record has a menacing, vile ambience. It's opening track InchHorse-Meat Cakes,Inch inspired by an anecdote by pulp author Philip K. Dick about how he and his wife subsisted off low-grade pet food when he first arrived in San Francisco, sets the tone lyrically and sonically. Subsequent tracks are filled with Rabelaisian body horror and sinewy, haptic diction. InchI try to pass out vital organs, convinced that they are waste,Inch intones Lambkin in InchHeart, Liver & Lungs,Inch before a chorus of detuned guitars kicks in, nearly drowning out the speaker's account of consuming chevaline intestines. Later songs similarly detail vernacular cooking (InchCaribbean Porridge,Inch about a cornmeal hangover cure), bodily processes (InchNocturnal Middle Rumbles,Inch about nighttime defecation), and creaturely conflict (InchCrystal TearsInch and InchSpin The Animal DialInch).

The two years since Inch1% JuiceInch is a relatively long time without a new Wayne Graham album and indeed a lot has happened in the meantime. Kenny and Hayden Miles have continued to play in other projects and bands inproduced in her studio. Among other things, Kenny Miles has the new Tyler Childers album recorded and mixed.

Graham Sharp has made a name for himself as the chief songwriter and a founding member of the GRAMMY-winning Americana group Steep Canyon Rangers. As the world entered lockdown in 2020, Sharp began to draw inspiration from a wellspring of emotions. On his first solo album, Truer Picture, the songwriter tackles difficult feelings of isolation (?Come Visit My Island?) and addresses the ever-topical political unrest we continue to see in the country (?My Neighborhood?). Sharp?s unique style of songwriting is apparent on Prine-esque songs like ?North Star' and ?Coming Back to Life,? and the rich instrumentation on tracks like ?Deeper Family? (featuring harmony vocals from The War on Drugs? David Hartley) illustrates the stark sonic differences between Sharp?s solo work and his music with Steep Canyon Rangers. What we?re given is a raw portrait of one of the finest songwriters of our time, a truer picture of Graham Sharp.1. Truer Picture of Me2. Generation Blues3. Love Yourself4. North Star5. Bad Apple6.
