About this product
I want to jump the blues and make the hard times swing. So opens the fourth full-length album for Bloodshot, and it's a deft proclamation of Wayne the Train's unwavering belief in the curative energy of juke joint swing. Man, there ain't no problem that can't be salved by his brand of stripped down, intensely rhythmic amalgam of hillbilly swing, honky-tonk, rockabilly and hep-cat boogie. It's an infectious and unpretentious sound that tells quotidian tales of driving your life away, throwing your money away, and having holes in your roof and holes in your shoes. Even when he sings on the hard times like Inchthe rich folks call it recession, but the poor folks call it depressionInch in InchWorkin' at Workin'Inch, it's done with a big smile and the dance floor is still full, with Wayne calling out solos to crack players like a modern day Bob Wills. Hell, you can even dance to his murder ballads. Yeah, Wayne's a throwback, but his conviction and energy kick to the curb any notion that he's a dusty old museum piece.

A Wayne InchThe TrainInch Hancock album is as refreshing as a beer pulled from a tub of ice on a hot summer's day; dang if it ain't always a kick how surprisingly JUST RIGHT it is. Slingin' Rhythm is just right, a finely honed brand of juke joint rhythm sitting in the sweet spot of American music invention between country, hillbilly, jazz, and Western swing. And while Wayne is indeed a throwback, the funny thing is, the more retro he gets, the fresher he sounds. His songs about the everyday and the everyman, with their driving rhythm and live-in-the-moment vibe, have a character and passion that go beyond a particular time. With it's emphasis on organic interplay and extended soloing, Wayne and his band drive the centerline between tight and loose. Like a latter day Bob Wills, spontaneously calling out encouragement, or Hank Sr and Ernest Tubb effortlessly knocking out smile (and dance)-through-the-pain honkytonk, Wayne Hancock delivers an unvarnished, BS-free restorative.

I'm Not In Love version. Double vinyl LP pressing. In 2001, Tori Amos released a unique collection of cover versions, Strange Little Girls. No stranger to putting her own individual stamp on other writers' songs, what made Strange Little Girls so different was the conceptual nature of the project, where she tackled 12 songs written by men, interpreted them from her own unique persecutive. This included unusual takes of songs originally recorded by a wide variety of artists, including Eminem, Slayer and The Stranglers. The original 12 track album has now been bolstered with four extra bonus tracks not on the original Alice Cooper's Only Women Bleed, David Bowie's After All, plus two unreleased songs, Bruce Springsteen's Growin' Up and Elvis Costello's Hoover Factory. Another unusual aspect of the original artwork is the 12 different characters that Tori brought to the cover artwork. Rhino are now releasing 12 different versions of the LP, which is available on vinyl for the very first time, with 12 different LP jackets, each featuring a Tori as a different character.
