About this product

The life of Mieczyslaw Wajnberg, full of plenty of difficulties and adversities, reflects the history of an entire generation of Polish Jews, who had to face a cruel history fueled by the forces of totalitarianism. This fate left it's mark on the composer's work, who spent most of his life in the Soviet Union. As an artist of a Inchwrong origin,Inch associated with Shostakovich, Rostropovich and Salomon Michoels, and not creating politically correct music, he was never a favourite of the authorities. The cello sonatas presented here carry a considerable aesthetic and emotional load, corresponding to the composer's socio-artistic relations and his cultural roots. Young Polish musicians - cellist Wojciech Fudala and pianist Michal Rot - successfully face the difficult work of the composer, who in fact belongs to three cultural circles. The closing the album piano miniature Berceuse, Op. 1, based on a poetic Slavic melody, entwined with a quasi-impressionist accompaniment, is a preview of Mieczyslaw Wajnberg's great compositional talent being born in the pre-war Warsaw. Album Tracks 1. Sonata na wiolonczele i fortepian nr. 1 Op. 21~Lento ma non troppo 2. Sonata na wiolonczele i fortepian nr. 1 Op. 21~Un poco moderato 3. Sonata na wiolonczele i fortepian nr. 2 Op. 63~Moderato 4. Sonata na wiolonczele i fortepian nr. 2 Op. 63~Andante 5. Sonata na wiolonczele i fortepian nr. 2 Op. 63~Allegro 6. Sonata na wiolonczele solo nr. 1 Op. 72~Adagio 7. Sonata na wiolonczele solo nr. 1 Op. 72~Allegretto 8. Sonata na wiolonczele solo nr. 1 Op. 72~Allegro 9. Berceuse Op. 1

Weinberg / Slawek / Rozanski - Mieczyslaw Weinberg: Sonatas for Violin & Piano - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

In the last decade or so, the contemporary Polish composer Mieczyslaw Weinberg has undergone a renaissance of sorts with his compositions receiving a level of attention from a younger generation of musicians that has been markedly absent in years past. Piotr Rozanski (piano) and Maria Slawek (violin) add notably to this recent phenomena with this collection of Weinberg's sonatas from the late 1940s and early 1950s that provide another compelling glimpse into the unlikely trajectory of this composer. Album Tracks 1. Sonata for Violin & Piano No. 4, Op. 39 2. Sonatina for Violin & Piano in D Major, Op. 46 3. Sonata for Violin & Piano No. 5 in G minor, Op. 53

Viv & Riley - Imaginary People - VINYL LP

A bittersweet nostalgia lies at the heart of Imaginary People, the new album from indie roots duo Viv & Riley. Over ten tracks, the pair applies an indie folk sheen to pop gems, a reworking of an ancient ballad, and even an original fiddle tune, deftly weaving together the old and new. In contrast to the sunny, rich production, the lyrics lean melancholic. Both musicians trace their original artistic inspiration to the deep roots music they learned in their youths on opposite sides of the country. The duo's continuing musical expansion is in part the fruition of their new home of Durham, NC which is known for it's cross-genre collaboration and creatively articulated roots music. However, the track list is still peppered with pedal steel and the rootsy fiddle and banjo trappings the pair employed to acclaim on their previous two releases. As much as Imaginary People looks back to nostalgic yesteryears, it importantly marks the beginning of a new direction for these songwriting virtuosos. Album Tracks 1. Kygers Hill 2. Sauvie Island 3. The General 4. Imaginary People 5. Flashing Lights 6. How to Lose 7. Chance Creek 8. The Long Way 9. The Blackest Crow
