Weta Workshop was intrinsically involved in the design and physical effects manufacture for all three films of The Lord of the Rings™ trilogy. Legolas raised his eyes and searched the plains before them, keen and far-seeing; while the Ranger stooped to the ground and studied the marks close at hand, the Elf looked beyond, striving to pierce the leagues that still lay between them and their quarry. For many days they had hunted without pause, yet still the trail ran on, and with each hour the peril of the captive hobbits grew heavier upon their hearts. It takes hundreds of hours to design, sculpt, model make, mold, and paint the prototype for each new Middle-earth piece. Whether it be a prop replica, beautiful environment, or iconic character, we treat our collectibles with the same level of care and attention to detail that we bring to our film work. In the cavernous gloom beneath the lonely Mountain, all is quiet. A hot stillness lies upon the vast desert of gold and treasure that carpets the ancient Dwarf city's once teeming halls; a treasure unrivalled in all Middle-earth, but which glitters unlooked upon by mortal eyes. For the wealth of Erebor is not unguarded. Many decades have passed since the Dragon Smaug's appetite and lust for gold lead him south from the Withered Heath to assail the kingdom of the Dwarves. Swift and terrible was his coming, in which untold multitudes of men and Dwarves died in fire and ruin. For now, all is peaceful in the halls of the sleeping Dragon, coiled serpent-like in his hoard. Iron-wrought by thralls of Sauron™, the Black Gate, a thing of sharp and rigid design, spanned the narrow gap between the mountains that bound Mordor™. By this way alone might entry to Mordor™ be gained, lest those who sought to cross the threshold travel hundreds of miles east or south. The great gate was an impenetrable barrier, opened only by the command of its gatekeeper and the might of a team of Mountain Trolls, who alone were strong enough to move the blockade.
