I purchased this dryer to replace a 20-year-old Kenmore that had finally failed beyond my ability to maintain. Delivery was smooth and installation was very simple -- use a wrench to install the four legs, adjust for leveling (important!), and use a screwdriver to attach the power cable. The dryer runs smoothly and no louder nor quieter than any other dryer I've ever used. There was about a half hour's runtime worth of "burn-off" smells, which is to be expected, and mentioned in the manual. After this break-in process, there are no unusual smells. The settings knob has a nice, solid feel to it, and everything is very easy to understand without consulting the manual: decide whether you want a timed cycle or a moisture-sensed cycle, choose your setting, choose the heat, and go. My first use of the dryer was to test the moisture sensing function, as I've never owned a dryer that used one. Using the "Wrinkle Control" setting (which defaults to "Low" heat,) the dryer took approximately 45 minutes to dry an average-sized load of clean laundry (a week's worth of cotton T-shirts, socks, undergarments, a few pillowcases, and one heavy flannel.) In the final few minutes, the moisture indicator switched from "Wet" to "Cool" before automatically stopping and shutting off the power. Results were good, as everything except the flannel was soft, wrinkle-free, and fully dried. The flannel came out slightly damp, but I didn't mind that. I'm assuming this unit uses a simple hygrometer (measures moisture in air,) not a little wizard in the drum that grabs everything as it spins to check for dampness. I was satisfied with what this dryer calls "Low" heat, and rarely plan on using any heat setting higher than this (towels and bedding only.) I appreciate that there is an even lower heat setting ("Ex Low") and that it is possible to air dry with no heat whatsoever. Overall, the dryer works well, and as expected. A final note: the buzzer when a cycle ends is LOUD! I stayed in the laundry room during the first run of the machine to make sure nothing went wrong, and it scared the heck out of me. I was expecting some digital tune, or a bell, like most new appliances tend to use. Nope, this is the old school buzzer, meant to be heard across the house. I only docked a star for two reasons. First, upon delivery, the steel back panel was covered in... whatever this is (see attached pictures; the top portion is smeared because I had already began wiping it off.) It was difficult to clean off. The rest of the unit was spotless, and the box showed no signs of water damage, so I have no idea what happened, here. My other complaint is the lint screen: it feels quite cheap and not built to last. It is almost entirely made of flimsy plastic, except for a sheet metal panel which the handle is attached to via plastic clips. It is not smooth to remove from the unit.
