This review is based on two weeks of use in a multi-cat household. I have had zero issues and the cats are happy to be fed precisely at the same time every day, so I'm considering this feeder to be a complete success.
In the box is the feeder, power cord, two different serving amount paddles, and bowl plus spares (total of 2 metal, 1 plastic). Setup is fast, pending desired serving size you may need to swap out the paddles, otherwise it's plug and play. There is a companion app (see photo) that allows you to fully manage the settings, however there is also a button interface on the front to manually set feeding size / schedule if preferred. I have confirmed that the physical interface works, however I prefer to manage the feeding schedule and amount completely from the Whisker app. A few other setup notes, the food container is a smooth plastic that completely detaches from the housing for easy cleaning, the lid is held in place by a squeeze latch on the top and locks securely in place to prevent cats from helping themselves to the food reservoir, there is a battery compartment for battery backup in case of a power disruption, and the bowls are easy to swap out to clean.
Using the feeder is simple, remove the lid and add dry food. For cats, the feeder will hold a seven lb bag of cat food (advertised capacity is 32 cups). The app will notify the percentage of feed left in the bin in real time and provide a push notification when the feeder is low. From the app I can check the status and how full the feeder is, give a snack (fan fav feature according to the cats), and change the schedule. For scheduling there are two options, gravity mode and set schedules. Gravity mode is my preference, as there are five cats and it's too crowded to try to feed them all at the same time off of one bowl. In gravity mode the feeder checks every six hours and dispenses food until it sees there is food at the chute. I have never once seen the bowl empty nor does gravity cause the bowl to overflow. As I have seven month old kittens in addition to adult and senior cats, I feed a blend of adult larger sized cat food pieces and the smaller sized kitten food. There have been no jams or failure to dispense using either size food. If you prefer to feed on schedule, you can set that through the app, and name different schedules so you can easily swap between a weekend, week day, travel schedule, etc. For each schedule you can build an unlimited number of feedings, so if you wanted to feed every 15 minutes or twice a day, the app allows complete flexibility. Setup process is to name the meal, set a time, determine the portion size (1/4, 1/2, 3/4 or 1 cup) and what days of the week to dispense. Once completed you can save this as a profile. From the app I can also see the amount dispensed by day and by week. While using gravity mode I can also see when the device checks the status of the food dish and will dispense more or mark that the chute is full, meaning that no more food is dispensed until the next status check. Lastly in the app is the controls tab where I can give a snack, turn on the panel lock out (child lock), turn on the night light, and turn on/off gravity mode.
Overall the feeder has been a significantly positive addition to the house. With five cats, two of which are growing kittens, it was hard to know how much to feed per day without over feeding and the cats pulling the food out all over the floor. Now I see a consistent food amount in the bowl every time I check, and never once has it been empty while in gravity mode.
