Wishbone Ash - Coat Of Arms - Red - VINYL LP

Yellow Vinyl. 2020 . Coat of arms sounds stylistically diverse and technically accomplished, yet the new album is typical of wishbone ash's traditional strengths - a balancing act that is a challenge to powell every time. Wishbone Ash celebrates their 50th anniversary this year. The band released legendary albums like Argus, There's The Rub and Live Dates. The band, still led by original member Andy Powell, was a huge influence for Iron Maiden's bass player Steve Harris. This album is back to the roots and the first one since 2014. Album Tracks 1. Pilgrimage (1971) is Wishbone Ash's second studio album and a pivotal step in defining the bands distinctive sound. This re-issue faithfully replictes the original UK in it's gatefold sleeve and is pressed on 180gm vinyl. Building on the twin-lead guitar approach introduced on their debut, the album expands into more intricate, pastoral, and adventurous territory. Andy Powell and Ted Turner weave melodic, harmonized guitar lines that feel both fluid and exploratory, blending hard rock power with folk-influenced lyricism. Tracks like Vas Dis and Valediction highlight the bands instrumental confidence, allowing extended passages to unfold organically rather than follow strict song structures. The rhythm section of Martin Turner and Steve Upton provides a steady yet flexible foundation, grounding the albums more expansive moments. Pilgrimage balances electric energy with acoustic textures, creating a reflective, almost spiritual atmosphere suggested by it's title. The album stands as an early example of progressive rock sensibilities fused with melodic hard rock, influencing countless guitar-driven bands that followed Album Tracks 1. Vas Dis 2. The Pilgrim 3. Jail Bait 4. Alone 5. Lullaby 6. Valediction 7. Where Were You Tomorrow

Of course, Wishbone Ash mark 2023 has little in common with the 1973 line-up. Or do they? After all, guitarist/vocalist Andy Powell still keeps a tight hold of the musical reins. In addition, guitarist Mark Abrahams, bassist Bob Skeat and drummer Mike Truscott are first-rate musicians, some of whom may be a lot younger, but ooze the original spirit and philosophy of this outstanding band.
