About this product
The relentless Bluebeard now has a soundtrack thanks to Dutch saxophone pride Yuri Honing. Yuri Honing dedicated his new album to the gruesome heritage of Bluebeard, title character of the 17thcentury French fairytale. The duke with the seven wives symbolizes other historic European figures. For example, Pablo Picasso, who conquered women and loved them, but also destroyed them; all these phases inspired his art. A sonnet by the first female Pullitzer Prize winner, Edna Millay, a variation on the fairytale, forms the basis of the album Bluebeard. With his Acoustic Quartet, Yuri Honing has been celebrating international success for many years. As with his previous album Goldbrun, the of Bluebeard will be followed by an exhibition at Museum de Fundatie in Zwolle, a 'Gesamtkunstwerk' of paintings, sculptures and music in collaboration with painter Mariecke van derLinden. Honing's awards include three Edisons and the Boy Edgar Prijs 2012, and he has worked with countless greats such as Pat Metheny, CharlieHaden, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Paul Bley and Craig Taborn. Album Tracks 1. Bluebeard Maze 2. A Room with a View 3. Narcissus 4. The Art of Losing Isn't Hard to Master 5. She Walked in Beauty, Like the Night 6. Bits of Paradise 7. Sonnet No. 6 Bluebeard 8. With Peace Orchestra, saxophonist Yuri Honing presents a new musical chapter where boundaries blur and sounds connect. This unique ensemble brings together a rich palette of influences, rooted in the spiritual jazz of the 1960s and '70s, yet infused with modern electronics and an open, contemporary sound.Inspired by legends such as Pharoah Sanders (The Creator Has a Masterplan), Charles Lloyd, and Sun Ra, the album is a tribute to musical freedom. The Peace Orchestra defies stylistic labels - it is a breathing, evolving entity where tradition, innovation, and improvisation continuously embrace each other.Together, Yuri Honing - tenor saxophone, Remy van Kesteren - harp & electronics, Ella Zirina - guitar, Tony Overwater - double bass & bass guitar, and Yoràn Vroom - drums, create a sonic universe that feels contemplative, powerful, and wide open. Imagine 4. Isola 5. Carte Di Amore 6. Magnificent (She Says) 7. Kaïn & Abel [Live] 8. Sufi (Traditional)
Saxophonist Yuri Honing returns here with a jazz album that breathes peace, serenity, tension and mysticism. The inspiration comes from Honing's love for classical music, history and art. The central theme and motive for this album is Europe and heroism. In these times when people do not always realize the value of Europe and 70 years of peace, Honing tells a binding story. During his research into the history of Europe, he chose Germany as a symbol of Europe because of their many writers, philosophers, composers and painters, and because of it's resilience and the leadership role they now take in Europe. Honing was especially inspired by the beauty of Richard Wagner's music and that of his disciple Richard Strauss. Both were determined in their music, even though they did not conform to the tastes of their time. Goldbrun, the title of the album, is a non-existent term. For Honing, it stands for the way he composed this album. The themes are interwoven into a larger whole, which characterizes that each second interval of the main theme is a small second. This way of non-linear composing he learned from the music of John Coltrane. InchI compose from a core and work from there to the edges... harmonic structures that start in the middle and spread out. It's a spherical thing, Goldbrun.Inch
