Hammocks

When selecting a hammock or hammock chair, think about where and how you will be using it. Hammocks and hanging chairs work well on a porch or patio, in a pergola or gazebo or in the classic spot between two trees. If you choose a hammock with a hammock stand, you can place your new hammock anywhere.

If your hammock is sheltered from rain, you might enjoy a classic cotton hammock. This kind of hammock can be very stylish but takes a while to dry if it’s wet. More weather-resistant hammocks can also be fashionable, too. Polyester hammocks are light and strong, and nylon hammocks are particularly durable, which is why aerial silks are often made of nylon.

For sunny spots, create shelter with a hammock cover or shade kit. If you are considering the best camping hammocks, pay attention to how much each hammock weighs. A portable hammock needs to be easy to pack and carry.

With a porch, pergola or gazebo, you can add reinforced hooks to the load-bearing beams to hang your hammock or hammock chair. You can also do this if setting up a hammock indoors by identifying the beams in the ceiling or wall that can support a person’s weight in the hammock. Make sure you follow all the manufacturer’s directions to create a stable hammock setup.

If you’re setting up a hammock between trees, take time to create the right tension and protect the bark of the trees from wear and tear. If your hammock is going to be part of a social area, think about complementary patio seating and outdoor tables. You might even want to incorporate a hammock as part of a backyard home theatre with an outdoor TV.

A hammock can make camping trips and backyard gatherings even more enjoyable. When temperatures drop or the sun goes down, add a fire pit or patio heaters to keep your outdoor space comfortable.
