Initially I had the same issue as the person below me with venting. It was throwing smoke the fumes and not extracting it all out. My problem was having an improperly sized exit vent that bottle necked the entire system. Now it works great! No smell or smoke. The leds have a warm tone with 3 brightness modes. The quiet mode is only at the lowest setting and after that it starts to get louder. Fan speeds 2-3 is more than enough for my daily needs and it goes all the way up to 6! It is a pain to install by yourself so definitely get an extra set of hands. Overall this is a fantastic unit.

I bought this from BB 2 years ago & had them install it as I coukdnt take the pathetic exhaust from the OTR microwave. I do A LOT of home cooking & between the heat from my oven or when I use my wok I needed something that would get rid of all that heat besides exhausting the food odors & steam. I researched for a couple of months before deciding on the Zephyr Typhoon & 2 years later I still get comments from friends & family on its beautiful design as well as how quiet it is & how great it works. Like others have said, on its highest speed it has amazing suction but is about as loud as my exhaust fan was on the OTR microwaves I've had that didn't have nearly the suction this does. It also does double duty if youre outside on a hot day (and we have about 300 of them here in Florida) cutting the grass if the fan is on you'll get a nice refreshing breeze! I no longer have a problem with condensation while boiling anything either. The led lights are perfect as well, from a very low light to very bright. The brightest level is so bright that I've actually rarely used it. I follow the cleaning directions precisely & have never had a problem with my fan. If you're in the market for this type of exhaust fan then look no further, you've found the best there is.

I have never owned a home where the microwave or vent above the stove vented outside. I was making french toast a few weeks ago which smells great when you cook it, but I could still smell it in my home that night. It stops smelling good at that point... I spent two weeks researching range vents. Theres a few Taiwan brands that are all in that 850-900CFM range. I almost bought a different brand but decided to stop at Best Buy to see this in person. Looked nice and I felt like if there was an issue it would be easier to return. My main goal was to remove smells from my home while cooking. I dont deep fry, but sautee a lot and I want to sear steaks inside. I wanted the highest CFM possible for this. Some other brands were slightly higher, but reviews were very mixed. Lots of 1 star and 5 star but many people complained about lack of customer service when they experienced an issue. Zephyr was solid overall so I decided to take the plunge. Best Buy delivered this to my home in two days which was great. Box and item arrived perfect. In the meantime I needed to purchase the ducting and accessories to install. My wall backs to my garage, so I needed to vent out there, make a turn and then exit the exterior wall in my garage. So I vented straight from the back with the 3.25x10 rectangle vent adapter to 7" round duct. Zephyr recommended increasing duct size if you have any turns. I then installed a 7-8" adapter and finished the run with an 8" duct. 8" piping is massive. Most homes have 6". This vent is 7" or 3.25x10 on top, or just 3.25x10 out the back. You can buy adapters from rectangle to circle at your local hardware store. If you vent this into a 6" pipe you will reduce CFM's. Better than your microwave but it wont be at its full potential. I bet even with a 6" pipe performance will be great. If you can just go straight back out of your house you are golden. If you need to go up then you might be stuck with 6". I wouldn't let it stop me from buying this though. For noise and performance. Level 1 is barely audible. level 2 is slightly louder but not loud. Level 3 is about the cutoff of having to turn up the volume a little on your tv if you have an open kitchen and living room. Again not much. Level 4, 5, & 6 add more noise but even at the highest its still slightly quieter than my last microwave with three fan speeds. you can have conversations in your kitchen on level 6 without yelling. If your microwave fan is loud this will be quieter than that on level 6. Performance level 1 will help to vent pretty good. Wont eliminate all the odors but helps. Level 2 takes away almost all odors from sautéing onions and garlic. You can smell it a bit about 5 feet away or so. Level 3 has taken all cooking odors away that ive tested over the last several days. Onions, garlic, pepperoni with garlic powder and cheese (keto diet) cooked on pretty high heat so there was a bit of smoke. Anything higher would be for very high heat wok cooking or deep frying. Im going to sear steaks in a couple days but im guessing level 3-4 will be sufficient. Level 6 is just overkill but glad the option is there. Level 6 will suck up a piece of thick paper from over 12" away with extreme force. I cant measure CFM but a microwave cannot compare. I was outside with my face in the vent when it was on and it felt like someone had a blow dryer in my face. The neat thing with this. If you wanted fresh air in your home. Open a window and crank it up and it will draw the outside air in. Install was very easy. Theres no template. My friend and I held it in place of my cabinet and we marked where the screws go. You attach the vent to the unit, tape up all the seams and everything so theres no leaks (use aluminum foil tape) hold it up to the cabinet, and install the four screws. I didnt need to cut the cabinet but a template would probably be nice for that. If you already have a vent in your cabinet then no need for a template. But if your vent is 6" then you will need to cut the bottom more to fit the 7" - 6" adapter. If your goal is to remove odors and smoke from your cooking this will do it with ease. Im so glad I decided on this one.
