This lens is perfect for times when you don't know what you'll be shooting or where the subject is. From super up close, like the end of the lens, to distant objects. I tested this lens out on our cruise in Mexico. I could take close-up pictures of flowers with blurred backgrounds and then turn around and get zoomed-in shots of subjects far away. I also used it at Easter. I didn't have to chase everyone down or step back to get everything in frame. It is a great travel lens, but the overall size is the main downside. Not a complaint. You don't get an 18-300 without expecting size. I did have a hard time with the autofocus in low light, which I had read about. Very happy with this lens.
