I bought this during the Black Friday sale for $30. It works fine for such an inexpensive tablet. If you have Amazon Prime, this might be the tablet for you. If not, you may want to look elsewhere. For this price, you should already know you're not getting the equivalent of an iPad or Samsung tablet. It seems to be better built and slightly faster than other Android tablets in this price range. You're stuck with the Amazon ecosystem, Including the Amazon app store, which is why I think if you're a Prime member, this might be great for you, but if not, you might not like it as much. There are ways to get the Google Play Store on it (search online), but these methods may void the warranty. Since it comes with only 8 GB of storage and only around 3 GB actually available, I added a 64 GB micro SD card. In the settings, make sure everything that can be stored to external storage is selected. Mine defaulted this way, but it doesn't hurt to check. Most apps from the Amazon store will only store on the device storage or at least partially there, so it's still fairly easy to fill up the onboard storage if you download lots of apps, even with an external micro SD card. Some other things I'll mention include the "special offers," which are Amazon ads on the lock screen. You can pay $15 to have Amazon turn them off, but I don't find them particularly bothersome. How often do you sit and stare at the lock screen? It goes dark after a minute or two anyway or you can manually make the screen go dark. It comes with Alexa, which you may or may not like. If not, you can turn it off during set up or in settings afterward. Alexa requires a button push on the Fire 7. It's not always on for voice activation. The cameras are pretty bad compared to most higher end tablets or cell phones. Don't expect to take great shots. Also, the speaker is pretty bad. I recommend headphones or ear buds. The battery life is OK. It seems to get around 7 or 8 hours during mixed use. I don't like that if you leave it on, but don't use it, it still drains the battery more than my other devices or phones. The warranty is only 90 days and there are some reports of charging port problems. Overall, it's a good tablet for the money. If it cost more, I would only give it 3 stars. I bought it primarily for downloading movies from Prime for traveling. You can download movies directly to the micro SD card, then watch them while traveling without a WiFi connection. It works for me.

    KIndle Fire 7

Amazon Kindle Fire 7 (2017) The Amazon Kindle Fire 7 is such an underrated device. Now, the reason I say this is because of how amazingly easy it has made my life, and how my mom to this day still thanks me for getting her one of her own. Before even purchasing my Amazon Kindle Fire 7 I went back and forth doing my research on other tablet devices their features, and price points. But, when it came down to it I realized I was already subscribed to Amazon Prime. I was familiar with the atmosphere and I love to read so I decided on the Amazon Kindle Fire 7 and I’m really happy I did. Whether it’s from pulling up my favorite book to accessing apps even taking a quick pic this device has it covered. Most of my apps on my phone are accessible on my kindle, if I need to check something on canvas, look up a recipe, or shop on Amazon my Kindle is right there. I know most people rather invest in an Apple Ipad or even in a Samsung Galaxy tablet and that is alright because if you need something for business or a more professional usage the Amazon Kindle is not for you. This device is strictly for personal use but still people do underestimate Amazon Kindle’s quality. I have seen people who have Ipads and Samsung Tablets and must say my Kindle has been more durable for my random clumsy tendencies than any other device I have seen especially at its price point. On the market right now the Amazon Kindle Fire 7 retails for an average of 40-50 dollars. The features include 7 inches of LCD touch screen, 8GB of storage, built in camera and hard plastic housing. The major pros from purchasing Amazon Kindle Fire 7 are obviously an affordable price point. Unlike some devices who average at a whopping $100-330 this device keeps you entertained without making you feel guilty for purchasing it. Another major pro is the ability to read downloaded books without wifi the device saves all your book purchases so you can access them without having to be connected to the internet and lastly a wonderfully long lasting battery life. Some cons surrounding this device is poor resolution when watching videos. Some things may look a little pixilated not horrible but screen quality could be improved. The devices storage is somewhat limited honestly I’ve heard this but have never had a problem myself. And lastly picture quality is pretty bad I haven’t used my camera to its full potential but I will say when taking picture of my dogs it could be better. Overall I will say I enjoy my Amazon Kindle 7 it does what I need it too. I have my whole library at my fingertips and I can access apps easily but I’m mostly happy that I did this all without breaking my bank.

    Wonderful thing to have!

I purchased two of these around a year or so ago, I was given an older kindle fire when my iPod touch broke and fell in love with it! They are easy to use and navigate, simple layout, and sleek design. I loved it so much I ended up buying this newer (at the time) fire 7s for each of my kids, ages 5 and 7, and they probably know how to work it better then me some days (I'm mainly an apple user myself). Plus you can set them so the internet will turn off at a specific time every night and to turn back on at a set time in the morning, and you can also set it to turn into a night shade mode at set times making it so when my kids want to read before bed the kindles screen will adjust to a shade that doesn't stop their eyes from thinking it's night time which would normally cause them to not be able to get sleepy like it would do if the screens were in the normal viewing mode that most electronics are in all the time so I can relax a little knowing my kids reading at night isn't going to disrupt their sleep patterns. They can also use them for internet research, YouTube viewing, social media (if they were old enough), can take pics and record videos, video chat with their grandma, and the typical reading books, although my 5 year old who is about to start kindergarten cant quite read on his own yet but with an app that came on his kindle fire all he has to do is touch the words and it'll read it for him so he is learning more words all the time :-) I'm planning on buying the newer kindle fire with the 8" HD display soon, either tonight or tomorrow lol, as well since my sons kindle that he has had for around a year now got into an accident and needs to be replaced so I can't wait to find out how well this newer HD screen does and will write a review once I know how well we like it. I would, and do, recommend this item to my friends and family!

I am so glad I bought the new 2017 Kindle Fire. This is my 2nd Fire, and 4th Kindle. I primarily use it to read / listen to books, 5% for games , apps, and video. The new features include: 1) The "About a Book" feature that is seen in the App is now on the Kindle. This is so great to have the summary available within the book and no longer needing to reference it in the Kindle Store. This is huge to me since I frequently pre-order books and don't remember them when they are finally released months later. And the summary is no longer tethered to WiFi availability. 2) The book sync's to most recent place read, not furthest place read (as seen in the 5th Gen.). This is great if you re-read books, it is no longer trying to put you at the end of the book. These were 2 things that I really wanted to them to put on the Kindle devices and they did it. So happy. Yes, it still has text-to-speech. You have to turn it on in the settings, but it is there. Yes, it still has the black screen with the light font. It is more gray than white so I like it even better. Yes, it still has bluetooth. I have paired it to my wireless headphones and it is great. The size is significantly smaller than the 5th gen. I can palm the entire device and I couldn't with the old version. The screen is the same 7" size. The new case is Great! I love that they finally built in the portrait view stand. It is so slim and easy to hold and carry. I did not need to go find an after market case that ends up being bulky. My one negative is the speaker is quieter than the old version. I used to be able to just listen to it from the passenger seat, but now I have to hook it to the car speakers. I just love this device. What an improvement in functionality for reading.

    Good basic tablet

The Kindle Fire 7 is a good basic tablet. It is attractive looking - I like the blue. It's not super fast, but not really slow. It's good for reading and basic games. I did not like the seemed squished. I am used to Samsung though. Sound quality is meh. Battery life is good. The biggest reason I ended up getting a 7 inch Galaxy Tab a month after buying this Kindle Fire 7 is because the blue light filter on this thing makes the screen some shade of orange or red, and I cannot find a brightness setting with that filter on that does not hurt my eyes. I want to read Kindle books in the dark so I don't disturb my wife. The second is that the screen is cluttered by things I do not want - and this version of Android is very much un-customizable. Overall...I think this is a good quality product, and I trust Amazon. I don't hate this tablet, and will probably keep it at work in my desk where I won't need the light filter. But...I wish I'd spent a little more and just stuck with Samsung.

    Great tablet for the price!

I actually bought this tablet as a gift for my niece. My niece likes to draw and does henna tattoos for friends. Lately she's been drawing on a sketch pad, but I wanted to give her an affordable tablet on which she could sketch, as well. Along with the Fire 7, I also gave my niece a fine point stylus which also works with the Fire 7 tablets. She owns a 1st generation Fire 7, but I didn't know whether the stylus was compatible with the model, being that it is so old. I also own a 5th Generation Fire 7, and for the price I paid for it, it is a very decent tablet. So upgrading my niece's tablet seemed like a good idea. My niece loved the new tablet and the stylus. I also recommended that my niece download SketchBook Pro, which has much more features than the basic free SketchBook app, and both work with Fire 7 tablets. My niece also sings, and I've read that it is possible to attach a USB microphone (with the right app), using a USB adapter, and turn your Fire 7 into a 48 kHz audio recorder. I would recommend the Fire 7 (7th Generation) tablet for those wanting a nice quality tablet with a very affordable price!

Tablet for my 3 yr old.

    • Verified PurchaserVerified Purchase

The tablet doesn't have any issues at all. Does everything it should. One compliant, it is very difficult for her to navigate this one, vs the one that she had before and broke. This one has several tabs across the top, if you choose games, (so she can play what we downloaded) it pulls up a lot of games to download, instead of what you have downloaded. So you then have to go into the library section to see your games. If you click the description it takes you to play store. You have to click on the actual picture to get started on a game. Also, getting to YouTube is a pain. I need some help to set this up for a childs use without her having the option of purchasing games or videos (and yes I have no credit card associated with it so she cannot technically buy), as well as making her downloaded games into icons that would just be put on a empty page for her to choose from, without having to go to the game tabs, getting excited by the games she sees available but hasn't and cannot buy. To list her Icons for the games she has already downloaded on one page would be amazing.

    Good at a sale price

Picked this up at a sale price of 34.99 and at that price I consider it a good buy. I am an Amazon Prime member and well-versed in all things Amazon, and have had previous Fire tablets in the past, so I was pretty confident in this purchase. I basically only needed a cheap tablet to use as an e-Reader because I wanted to use the Libby by OverDrive app, which is a lot easier and more straightforward to use rather than the Kindle app when it comes to borrowing e-Books from my local library. Caveat Emptor, however--I had to side load the Google PlayStore in order to get the Libby app. I would honestly only recommend this to those fully immersed in the Amazon ecosystem or those who can and are willing to sideload the Google PlayStore onto it; otherwise, you are restricted to the limited apps found in the Amazon Appstore.
