A: Hello Bill, the Amazon Fire HD8 is ad supported. You can remove the ads through your Amazon account for a small fee. Have a great day!- A: Hello jm, Yes, the Fire HD 8 Tablet can do all of these things. First of all, in order to get Text to Speech on books in the Kindle App, I have attached the steps below: While reading, tap the center of the screen, and then tap the menu icon Aa in the upper right corner. Tap More, and then tap the switch next to Text-to-Speech to turn it on. In your Kindle book, tap the screen to show the progress bar, and then tap the Play button next to the progress bar to hear the text read aloud. To increase or decrease the reading speed of the Text-to-Speech voice, tap the Narration Speed icon. You can listen to the Text-to-Speech voice through the external speakers on your device or through your earphones plugged into the headphone jack. In order to Display White Text on a Black Background, while in the document you are viewing, you can tap the middle of the page and the options toolbar will appear. Then, You can click on the "Text" Button which will give you the options to change the size, color and font of text. This will allow you to change to a white text on a black background. The Fire HD 8 Tablet has the capability to rotate the screen as well. If you would like to Lock or Unlock screen rotation you can Swipe down from the top of the screen. You will see an Image stating if the tablet is in Portrait or Landscape mode. When you hold down on this button, A menu will come up which will allow you to turn on or turn off the screen rotation. I hope this helps!
Q: Is this compatible with cellular / internet access when not on Wi-fi? (2 answers)
A: Hello Mitch! This device is only available to be connected via WiFi. It does not have cellular or carrier services available for it. Thank you so much for your question and I hope you have an awesome day!Q: Can you download apps from Google Play store or what OS is this tablet (3 answers)
A: No, you cannot download Google Play app on this tablet according to the Gek Squad employees at my local Best Buy. To download the “free” Trend Micro Mobile Security antivirus security (free for 3 months as advertised when I bought the tablet) as the directions on downloading and installing instruct you to download Google Play app. I tried thru the Amazon play app, and it is incompatible, or so the Geek Squad told me. I took it personally into the store to ask because I can’t get it downloaded. It is incompatible also with the web root service I have with the Geek Squad and was told that I don’t really need either as this tablet “isn’t really considered a computer.” So why does it say on the Best Buy online website you 3 mo. of free Trend Micro Mobile Security? Two people in the Geek Squad area told me this when I took it into the store for help. I think they just really didn’t care, or else it was false advertising.- A: Happy you reached out regarding your new tablet Bobbie. Here is a solution to adjust your font sizes. Device (will not change font in books, but will change it for menus): Swipe down from top of screen Tap on Gear Icon (settings) Tap on Accessibility (you might need to scroll down to find this) Tap on Font Size (Normal Large and Huge are the options) Books (this will only change it for text in books and will not change it for menus, dictionaries, Xray, etc): Tap in center of page Tap on the Aa icon and change to the font and size you want
- A: Hello Karla, Unfortunately, Amazon does not offer any sort of WiFi plans for devices. However, all Amazon Tablets can connect to open or secured Wifi Networks. This would mean if you are traveling and would like to use the tablet, through the settings on the tablet you are able to access nearby wireless networks. Your tablet would also be able to connect to any sort of mobile hotspot from a cellular provider.
