I purchased the Anbernic 406H handheld gaming console through Best Buy, and one thing to note right away is that it didn’t come with a preloaded SD card, unlike when buying directly from Anbernic’s website. That aside, the console itself is fantastic. The transparent purple shell instantly hits that nostalgic sweet spot, reminding me of classic handhelds from my childhood. The screen is bright and crisp, and the entire unit feels solid and well-built in hand. Following the setup video from Retro Gaming Corps on YouTube, getting everything configured was surprisingly easy. So far, I’ve played Game Boy Advance, GameCube, Nintendo 64, PS1, and PS2 games, and every title I’ve tried has run great. The only hiccup I hit was with the GameCube library not showing up in the Daijisho front end, but that was quickly fixed after a quick Google search—if your games are in ISO format, just convert them to RVZ and they’ll appear correctly. Because the 406H is Android-based and the screen is touchscreen compatible, I’m also able to download and play newer games from the Google Play Store without any issues, which adds even more versatility to the device. Overall, I’m very happy with the 406H. It offers true portability and lets me replay the games I grew up with on a single console, without needing a whole stack of old systems. If you’re into retro gaming and don’t mind setting up your own SD card, this handheld is an excellent choice.

After trying this emulator for a while, I realized I actually prefer playing on real retro handhelds or even on my phone. With original systems, you just pop in a cartridge and start playing—simple and hassle-free. Emulators, on the other hand, mean dealing with ROMs, downloads, and possible risks like viruses. Honestly, I wish I had known this before buying.

Glad to see anbernic available at Best Buy, my 406v handles GC, DC, SS, PS2 games on its 4:3 screen with accurate no drift Hall effect sticks and comfortable size. It plays every late 90's / early 2000 game I've thrown at it. Its nice to have a device that just plays games and I can let my phone take a break.
