      Great Mac with many uses

      Purchased on sale to replace my 8 year old macbook. Since I decided to go with the larger Retina display (15.4"), I was really surprised by how light weight it is for its size. I have been able to transport it relatively easily and comfortably, although finding good streamlined cases for it is a little more difficult than the 13.1" MacBook Pro. Performs really well! The quality of the display and the fast processor have made it enjoyable. I am looking forward to doing some gaming on the machine. I have already played a few games on it and there were no problems with gameplay. It performs fantastically for streaming videos and loading high-res images. The battery last for a very long time when browsing the internet and doing email. Battery life is still pretty respectable when gaming or watching videos. My only con is that it does not have a CD drive. I'll take that trade-off to make the machine lighter and more portable, but buying the USB superdrive is a must to rip CDs and load new programs to the machine. I am really happy with the purchase. It was pricey, but I can see this computer lasting for quite a while.

      Apple has such great support and customer service. I haven't used this protection plan yet, as I just recently purchased it with a new MacBook Pro. However, I had an Apple Protection Plan on my son's refurbished iPad. After almost 3 years of use, we were having trouble with his iPad shutting down so I called Apple support. I was informed it was the battery, which could not be replaced. So, they helped me back the malfunctioning iPad up on the Cloud and sent a new iPad with a return label for me to the send the old one back. This was all done in a matter of days without any hassle, and I didn't even have to pay any shipping. Oh, and the best part-- When you call you aren't on hold forever, and you get to speak to a real person who is able to address your problem right away!!!!

      I purchased Geek Squad which replaced my computer and told me they would try to retrieve my data from from computer for a price. This was acceptable but no follow up and no data retrieved. I was transitioning with a lot of stuff so had very little time to follow thru so after receiving new computer didn't follow up with retrieving Office Suite... When I finally called a couple of months later when I noticed that I had no way to document then I contacted them. Geek squad said they would send me the app at no charge since. Never received to this date actually about 5 months later. If you purchase GEEK SQUAD then be prepared to ride them to follow thru. They drop the ball continuously. I am very unhappy!

      No accidental damage coverage!

      When I purchased this, and picked it up IN PERSON at Best Buy, I specifically asked if it covered accidental damage. And was told yes. IT DOES NOT!!!! Unlike Apple's Apple Care Plus on iPhones/iPads this is literally an extension of the manufacturer warranty. So when the display under the glass cracked(but not the glass), they considered it accidental damage and I paid $700 for a new display on a 6 week old $3000 laptop!!! How it broke? I was moving it 20' put a stack of 15 papers in it and closed the screen 1/2way. Walked over, put the computer down went to fully open the screen and heard "crack". My last one is 11yrs old, did the same thing a million times, never had a scratch.

      I am now on my 4th Mac computer. Every one of them has been purchased with AppleCare. Having this coverage has helped me 3 times prior: 1. iMac crashed and needed both the hard drive and super drive replaced. 100% covered. 2. Mac Book Pro needed mother board replaced after a liquid spill. 100% covered. 3. Time Capsule was replaced after it would no longer backup the Macs. 100% covered by the plan that was bought to cover the MacBook. I've also used AppleCare phone support to get help setting up a home network using an Airport Express along with the Time Capsule.

      I bought my computer as open box; turns out it had been open box for nearly 6 months. Therefore I lost 6 months of the apple care plan and the store I bought it from put the product in the wrong box, therefore there was no record of my purchase of the computer w/ apple. I had to go back to the store to return and rebuy this computer. It was a headache and it was careless of Bestbuy. Similarly, i was given the wrong apple charging device for the computer. I'll likely never buy open box at Bestbuy again.

      I usually get AppleCare Plus for all my Apple purchases. Thankfully, I have not really had to use it, but the peace of mind it offers is worth it, in my opinion, especially when Apple products are priced higher than most others. The quality I've experienced with Apple products is above reproach, but they are machines and this is not a perfect world, so I accept and understand that sometimes things can go wrong. This protection plan only serves to increase my confidence in my purchase.

      I called Apple Care twice during set up for handholding. I have used it a couple of times for virus help with another Mac. The help is knowledgeable, access is usually immediate or with just a couple of minute wait. Apple Care has always solved my problems. In one case the problem solution was complicated and Apple Care scheduled an appointment for me with the Genius Bar who solved the problem in about a minute. Take Apple Care with you when you leave the store.
