    Flexibility for students and gamers!

I am truly impressed with this laptop! I think Asus has hit the nail on the head with the features included on this laptop with everything down to including a full-size keyboard on this model to having USB-C PD available to be able to charge this laptop with any decent wattage USB-C charger while on the go! This creates incredible flexibility for students or people using this keyboard while on the go without having to bring the relatively bulky normal charger along! One con to this laptop is the built-in storage. This 512GB Sandisk NVMe SSD, while nice and fast with read speeds of 6600MB/s and write of 5100MB/s, does honestly feeling mighty limited on storage space for 2026 games. As I have shown in one of the pictures in the review, by the time I was ready to download my first Steam game, this only had 370GB or so of usable storage! What a huge amount of bloat that must be on this laptop to make it that the user only gets to use 370GB or so of storage for themselves, especially when considering game sizes of easily 80-140GB these days. The RAM is on a single 16GB stick with ready availability for adding another stick in the future. While peak framerates will tend to be achieved on dual-channel memory set ups, I can appreciate that with current memory shortages and prices, keeping it on a single channel allows a user to add another RAM module later when prices (hopefully) come down from out of the stratosphere. In the meantime, gaming and performance has been reasonably good on this machine and the upgradeability helps argue the relevance of its purchase. In terms of build quality and feel, I quite like this laptop from numerous perspectives. The metal laptop lid feels incredibly solid and leaves me confident that this laptop would hold up in a bag even with textbooks and school supplies stuffed around it. The keyboard deck has no flex at all and feels incredibly sturdy to type on. The keyboard has a great feel with quiet membrane switches that feel quite responsive but are not loud or distracting in quiet settings. I would not feel embarrassed to use this laptop in a lecture hall or library setting. I also love that it is a full sized keyboard with number pad, so using excel and doing my number crunching on the calculator is way easier with this laptop. I am sure those with math or number heavy classes will appreciate this laptop. The laptop as a whole does seem a little prone to picking up fingerprints, but they are not too terrible or obnoxious. While this laptop, with its CPU selection, is not as comparatively optimized as some recent gaming laptops for on-the-go use unplugged from the wall, it holds up extremely well with the right settings! I have used this laptop in the Armoury Crate directed “Silent” setting with it linked up to Windows settings to control the power setting of the laptop. This results in a quiet running laptop that will easily get a good 4-6 hours of use away from a charger with the variety of tasks I throw at it from multitasking in different chrome tabs, Windows Office products, all while the screen is at about 70% brightness. Gaming on this laptop matches what I would expect with a 5060 that has 8GB of VRAM. Most all of my tested games, like Doom: The Dark Ages and Arc Raiders are running well with frame rates in the high 90s to low 100s on mostly medium to high setting at 1920x1200p. Overall, I would rate this as 5/5 in 2026 for a newer gaming laptop. The inflation and price problems with these laptops is very hard to stomach, but I am pleased to see that as far as things are concerned with this laptop, no serious corners were cut, and optionality is in place for future upgradability on the important things like RAM and storage. Thanks for reading and I hope this review has helped you out!

Outstanding gaming laptop with premium features

The Asus TUF Gaming F16 is an excellent gaming laptop that delivers impressive performance backed by a suite of high end features. The Intel Core i7 14650HX paired with 16GB of memory blasts through everyday tasks with ease. It’s actually surprising how well it performs considering this isn’t Intel’s newest processor, yet it still responds instantly when you ask it to do anything. You can open demanding software without experiencing any lag at all. The Nvidia GeForce RTX 5060 chews through any game you throw at it and spits out crisp, high definition visuals on the Full HD+ 144Hz WUXGA display. With its minimal bezels, the screen feels larger than it is, giving you an immersive experience without adding bulk to your backpack or desk setup. One of the standout features of this laptop is its expandability. You get two RAM slots and two SSD slots, so upgrading down the road is simple and convenient. The Windows Hello compatible camera adds another layer of usability, letting you unlock your laptop and password managers using facial recognition. Charging options are flexible too. You can use the USB C Thunderbolt port, which aligns with most modern devices, or the included ASUS charger. Despite being a thin laptop, the chassis feels extremely durable. Asus advertises military grade toughness, and I don’t doubt it as this machine seems more than capable of handling a few bumps without falling apart. For such a slim device, the port selection is surprisingly generous, giving you plenty of ways to connect external gear. And considering how powerful this laptop is, the cooling system is both large and efficient. It keeps temperatures under control without blasting loud fan noise, so you can enjoy long gaming sessions without dealing with excessive heat. With the current memory shortages affecting pricing across the industry, this configuration is about as good as you’re going to get for the asking price. If you need a gaming laptop today, it’s hard to find a better option from a company known for standing behind its products.

Solid Gaming Performance TUF Gaming Laptop

PRODUCT ASUS - TUF GAMING F16 16" 165HZ 2K GAMING LAPTOP - INTEL CORE I7-14650HX 2024 - 16GB MEMORY - GEFORCE RTX 5060 - 512GB STORAGE - JAEGAR GRAY MODEL: FX608JMI-TF/F16_76 QUICK REVIEW A Solid Gaming Performance TUF Gaming Laptop REVIEW Just to address the “elephant in the room” right from the start. This is the “New Normal” of new laptop pricing. Thus, the definitions of Mid-Tier Gaming laptop have radically shifted over the past few years. This is a great laptop first released in 2025, now in 2026 with slightly reduced RAM and Storage. It was a very good laptop in 2025, it is still a good laptop in 2026. What I like best about this line of laptops from ASUS is that they can be easily expanded with more storage and more RAM due to additional available slots. I set up my laptop to run as a dedicated racing simulator. It is driving an ultrawide screen running top tier titles (like Forza and F1) without any issues. I also tested some other titles like Doom Eternal [Ultra Nightmare Setting - 80-90 FPS (1920x1080)] and CyberPunk 2077 – [Ray Tracing Low – 60-80 FPS (1920x1080)] Thanks to the RTX 5060 this is a solid performing laptop for intermediate gaming. The screen is plenty large and bright and the keyboard is easy to use for everyday purposes. The 10 key numeric keypad is a welcome addition to a larger laptop. The fans are well placed blowing air out the back and not onto your lap. PROS - TUF build and feel - Great Rugged Looks - Lots of USB ports - Ethernet port - Thunderbolt port - Numeric Keypad (small but usable) OVERALL EXPERIENCE The laptop is not maxed on specs but has a good balance of performance and value. It easily handles everything I have tried from casual gaming to video editing and more. It is well built (TUF) and should last a long time. RECOMMENDATION For all but the most power hungry applications and users I would recommend this for school, gaming, graphics, and more.

Great Laptop but Where is the Thunderbolt 4?

The Asus TUF F16 is a great, amazing Laptop. With all that said, there is one major issue I had with it. Where is the second USB-C port? The Thunderbolt 4 port is missing. I tried attaching my Thunderbolt hub to the only USB slot. It did not work. There is even a "Thunderbolt Control App" in the settings. The USB-C port does not have the logo. It only displays the 10GB logo. This laptop is almost 2,000 dollars but Asus removed the Thunderbolt 4? Many people use Thunderbolt 4 because it allows you to use only one cable for multiple things. While not having many cables sticking out of your laptop causing more clutter. Also, the screen is not 165Hz, it is only 144Hz. Outside of that, the Laptop is Great. The screen isn't the best looking, but it's fine. It's only 1080p and not 2k or anything like that. The keyboard is amazing which Asus is known for. The mousepad is even smooth for being a plastic mousepad. The CPU is still overkill and will be fine for most task rather it be gaming or Content Creation. The 5060 is the lowest I'd go for any task. For gaming I loaded up some Path of Exile 2, which can be graphically intense. While turning on DLSS 4.5, I was between 60-120FPS. There were a few stutters here and there but the gaming experience was enjoyable. The audio was good also for speakers that face down. While gaming, temps stayed reasonable. The laptop got loud but not anything crazy. The Laptop is built like a tank and is very Solid. I did upgrade the RAM to 32GB. I also added a 1TB SSD. This is a good mid-range laptop. But, and I mean but, if you need a Thunderbolt 4 port, this is not the laptop for you. If you don't use Thunderbolt 4, this will do. But I just find it unacceptable in 2026 that there is no Thunderbolt 4 port on a Laptop that almost costs 2,000 dollars...

A TUF reality with premium feel but mixed results

This is my first ASUS "TUF" laptop to own and I have been using it for about a week now and I am thoroughly enjoying it so far. It feels great holding in the hand for the first time, premium and the performance this brings. -- Design -- First off, I always thought the "TUF" models were the bottom basic tier, lackluster, cheap quality laptops but after using it for a week now (Today being 8/8/2026) with a price of $1,989.99, those thoughts I have long held for a few years at least when browsing these models have long went away. From the packaging/unboxing which is on par with the "ROG" and "ProArt" line and then visually seeing, holding the laptop, and the feel of it has me thinking that this feels premium. This gaming machine feels like its built to survive any environment of daily use with its military-grade chassis, superb cooling and a surprisingly good display, this would check off almost every box for a practical gamer or even a non-gamer as its outside is not decorated with RGB neon blinking lights all over. This would blend in good for a office/meeting setting also. It's good to have a rugged laptop for the accidental "drop" of the table, or even be in a laptop bag with books and what not, this would hold up to both scenarios no problem. This TUF laptop is backed by MIL-STD-810H certification, the chassis genuinely feels stable and resistant to flex. A practical bonus is the finish’s resistance to fingerprints which both the lid and when the laptop is open remain surprisingly clean even after extended handling. The hinge is really nice, the laptop screen can open all the way down flat for a full 180 degree's. On the back ledge of the laptop, there is 4 very small rectangle LED indicators, one is for power, charging, SSD read/write indicator. while its nice that this is on here which I brag when a laptop comes with these indicators as they are a missing feature now days, I wish they were front and center and not hidden when the laptop screen is open. Good scenario would be if this laptop was installing a update, program, whichever it may be, or its not responding, I would have to either get up and look behind the laptop or fold the screen down and kneel over just to look and see if there is any activity. That would be my only small gripe about the entire design. Hopefully ASUS sees this and takes note to keep these indicators and feature them more prominently, somewhere in the front or inside when the screen is open. -- Display -- The screen on this laptop is a nice bright 16 inch 16:10 IPS panel. While its not OLED, the screen and picture looks great. Trying out different viewing angles, they were very good. 144Hz is the max on this. Overall, I find the content and games I played superb with no problems. -- Upgrade Options & Performance -- To start off, the price on this laptop, its up there but that is because of the RAM-pocalypse, RAM-mageddon, RAM-crisis, and there is several more that most tech enthusiast's are calling it these days and unfortunately, this is for all tech that is affecting the price hikes for, even SSD's pricing is way up there. It's not ASUS's fault, they are working with what components they can get their hands on and they are choosing what they are putting in the laptop without jumping the price even higher. If it was prior August of 2025, the "TUF" models would be in the $1,000 average price range. With that out of the way, this laptop is easy to open up at the bottom for upgrading (Yes, you read that right, no soldered memory!) weather you are wanting to buy the high priced RAM modules/SSD's now or wait until the prices *hopefully... maybe* go back down. Regardless, you can upgrade to a max of 64GB of memory. It has two slots, the one on my laptop has one slot occupied with a 16GB Micron DDR5-5600 module stick. Also the 512GB SSD can be upgraded, which also has a additional M.2 PCIe slot if you want to have a additional SSD for even more storage. Also two more things, Wi-fi card... its also removable so if your wifi starts having problems down the road, or you want to use a different type of card, it can be replaced. My unit came with the Intel Wi-Fi 6E AX211. Battery can also be replaced easily if it ever needs it. Overall, this TUF laptop is easy to maintain and upgrade just for its upgradability or replacing above which should make it easy for future proofing at least up to 5 years or even longer. Now performance wise, I'll mention this first, yes, the title of the processor says "Intel Core i7-14650HX 2024" with 2024 that might immediately throw people off thinking, this is a 2024 ASUS TUF model. No, this is a 2026 model, the 14650HX processor debuted in 2024 and is still used in brand new laptops like this one which it does not make it outdated or weak for a gaming laptop in 2026. ASUS chose it because it is a high-clocked, high-core-count HX powerhouse that delivers strong real-world gaming and productivity performance to this day. Which makes this laptop feel like one of the most mid-budget powerful 16 inch laptops out there today. Along with the i7-14650HX, it also has the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 with 8gb of GDDR7 VRAM packed into this. Trying out a few games, first off as I picked Star Wars: Jedi Survivor to be my first candidate, and dont see many out there choosing it for benchmarks compared to other commonly benchmarked games, it ran smooth, had no problems playing but with 16gb of ram, checking my resource usage, I was utilizing all the ram with only Steam and the EA app running in the background (See attached screenshots). I checked settings to see where everything was set and it was automatically set to high/ultra. Avg FPS I was getting was 90-110FPS. Then I tried out Death Stranding Director's Cut and that game has a beautiful gorgeous environment and a good test for the 5060 and it also did pretty good. Right around 80FPS, again, utilizing all the ram just about. Overall, It can handle the games ok but possibly expect a little choppiness here and there if there is a lot of assets loading in certain scenes/environments. I feel like 8GB of VRAM is to low now days on graphics cards, I think the standard should be 12GB of VRAM and 32GB of RAM due to how much the newer games needs resources now days. I plan to upgrade the RAM in this at least one day sooner or later, just depends on how the RAM prices look down the road. Just isn't right now thats for sure. -- Connectivity -- For charging, this has a proprietary square plug for the charging port on the left side, then it has its fair selection of ports on the sides. The port selection is really generous here starting on the left side of the laptop, (1) RJ-45 Standard gigabit ethernet, (1) HDMI 2.1 port, (1) USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port (10Gbps) that similarly supports DisplayPort video and 100W Power Delivery for alternative, lighter-duty charging, 1x USB-A 3.2, audio jack, then on the right side, you get (2) USB-A 3.2 and thats it. Im thinking ASUS did this to the right side with barely any ports to have plenty of space for a user who wants to use a external mouse right beside the laptop for mouse movements with unobstructed space. -- Interface -- The keyboard layout feels cozy and solid, typing on this feels excellent with great feedback and very quiet, may I dare say, quiet actuations. I didn't see/feel any flex while using/typing on it. The keys are a little smaller but the typing experience is comfortable enough. They keys are RGB and can be set to any color but can be turned off in the Armory crate app if desired. Also a numpad which some users will love if they are looking for this in particular. The touchpad is great, its not overly big where when im typing, im not constantly accidently moving the curser or clicking off where I was typing. Compared to other laptops, I like smaller trackpads compared to the gigantic trackpads that take up half of the laptop. -- Battery -- Battery life didn't impress me on this, its a 90 Wh, up to 240 W max power adapter, you can also use a USB-C charger to charge it but it will be slower which I would rather use the included ASUS power adapter for the full quicker charge but using it on battery, I got on 2 occasions with a full charge, I got around 3-4 hours of usage with a youtube video playing with no other usage during the video playing. This would serve better as more of a stationary laptop or if your gonna be portable with it, make sure your near a outlet -- Sound -- The speakers on this laptop are ok, could be a lot better with more loudness, compared to my ASUS ROG Zephyrus, the TUF sounds lower in volume even though the levels are at the loudest with 100%. It is crystal clear, but if I walk 10 feet away from it, I barely can hear it at all. Sound could be a lot better. -- Suggestion -- For the next TUF series line, please DO NOT GET RID OF THE LED INDICATOR LIGHTS for power, SSD, charging!! Make them more noticeable on the front/top of the keyboard or if needed, put the lights on the sides for ones like me who are use to seeing these LED's/lights back in the 90's/2000's on PC's and laptops. It makes you all stand out compared to other laptops and make the speakers a bit better in this like your other series models such as the ROG line and the ProArt line. -- Conclusion-- As im using this is as my main laptop, it has a great display, keyboard, decent ports. However, the speakers/sound could use improvement for more loudness, the 512GB SSD, especially for a gaming laptop is to low with how big games are getting, 16GB of ram seems to low now days, 32GB should be the standard, and any dedicated GPU should at least have 12gb of VRAM as the standard. The CPU is great, its just bottlenecked with the ram and vram if hoping to playing demanding games with settings set to high/ultra high and then the price is a bit high along with a mediocre battery that doesnt last long, I would barely recommend this laptop. I would give this a 3 out of 5 stars
