Enter a world of magic and synthesis, a world where ancient relics called machines have recently been discovered, a world where customers no longer come to the kingdom's alchemist for help. It is in this world that Rorolina Frixell lives. Better known as Rorona, this young apprentice is left abandoned and bewildered by the deliberate disappearance of the lazy workshop owner. Now, it's been said that the workshop will be closed down if she can't prove in three years time that she's capable of doing her job. Rorona will need some assistance if she's to become Atelier Rorona: The Alchemist of Arland.

Join Rorona on her adventures as she discovers objects to synthesize together to produce items that will help her in battle and aid in her quests and exploration. When the going gets rough and it's time for a turn-based battle, don't forget to call for an Assist, requisitioning a friend to help defend or heal Rorona or help attack her enemy. As her friendships grow, Rorona's friends will do more damage and healing in battle. To prepare for battle and anything else that may come Rorona's way, just don't forget one thing — synthesis is everything.
