I bought 4 of these as my surrounds for my 7.1 setup. I went to Best Buy many times to audition surround speakers. I was originally looking at the B&W 686B's to do the job but they weren't a good wall or ceiling mounting option because of their size, but sounded great. I then listened to some Def Tech ProMonitor 800's but they didn't sound as warm as the 686B's. After a couple of weeks I saw the M1's on display and gave them a listen. They sounded superb and evenly balanced. They could even handle a high volume and still sound great. They come with a wall mount as well as a stand so I was sold. The wall mount feature was important to me so I will elaborate. The mounts took a little fidgeting to get them to fit right, but by the third one I had it down. When they are completed, they look clean and neat. I did not run the wires through my walls. I have the wire going down the wall but it still looks nice because the wires attach inside of the mount instead of the speaker. The speakers can also be angled as much as you need them to be. You can even refit the mount on the back of the speaker to turn the speaker horizontally. These are fine surrounds. They deliver great sound in a small package without that "boxey" sound.

I have been looking for some small unobtrusive satellite speakers to be my front highs for quite some time. Finally I found great sounding speakers in a good looking small footprint package that timbre match with my existing speakers costing many times over the M1s. I was totally astounded at how superb these little babies sounded when I replaced the much larger more expensive speakers I had been listening to. They really do mesh well with my Platinum 200s and add so much to the front sound stage that if I did not have in-ceiling back surrounds I would be replacing them as well with the M1s. You really cannot go wrong with this fabulous powerhouse of a speaker whether for your front mains or surrounds. These speakers sound better than speakers costing many times over what these are on sale for!!! Don't hesitate if you are looking for a great speaker in a small form factor that sound like a floor standing speaker at a very reasonable price point!!!

Our theater room size is approx 40' x 15' and we have a 7.1 Pioneer Elite receiver head-unit. We have speaker wire buried in our walls so our choices were limited as to what bookshelf speakers we could buy. The the "on the floor" sales guy at the Signal Hill Magnolia Room really knew his stuff and convinced me to listened to several brands but left the B&W's for last. There was no comparison to the other bookshelf speakers-these blew me away. The highs, mids and lows are crisp and clear. Music sounds much more "mature" than my previous set of speakers. Movie audio is much more enjoyable. I listened to several bookshelf speakers most of which made music sound louder, however movie quality audio was lacking or vice versa. The B&W's were a perfect balance for both music and theater audio. The only negative is that it took a little while to mount them as the B&W's have a unique mounting bracket-The time spent mounting was well worth the quality that I received in the end. I'm very happy and plan to get another pair for the garage.

I bought $225 each speakers expecting that they would hold up. I was wrong. I have blown 3 of the five I purchased. They were last years model so hopefully these are better. I got the geek squad protection so two of them were repaired with a 5 week turn around time. One of them was junked out, because they scratched it, and the store replaced it with one of this years model. Let me tell you the wall mount on these is horrible. Last years model was great. Very easy to put up, and you could remove the speaker from the mount with the black cover on and a single set screw. The new model is designed for the mount to go directly over the hole in the wall where the wire comes out. If you have a socket with plugs on it that you then run a short wire from there to the speaker these will not work, as there is no access into the cover for the wire. Hopefully I will not have to get any others replaced because I really do not want this model and the horrendous mounting change. Sound quality is great. when they are not blown, they sound amazing. They just don't seem to handle quite the volume of music I was intending.

There simply is no down side to these speakers, allowing that no premium product of any sort can be purchased for a low dollar amount. But even at about $250.00 each, these speakers are worth the price in spades. There is hardly anywhere these speakers cannot be placed, fixed or hung, even on top of your head, if you like, by mounting them on a bike helmet or other head gear. Aside from that, their compact size and style allows you to locate them as inconspicuously as possible, to least detract from your interior décor. Last but very pointedly not least is their sound quality. Their wide frequency range and clarity, and their capacity of making speech intelligible at low volume levels is a thing of wonder.

I was looking to purchase a new 5.1 speaker system for the bedroom. I had a Definitive 5.1 speaker system in the living room which I purchased from Best Buy a few years prior. I was sold on the B&W by the service rep in the magnolia home theater section. Wow, was I impressed. The speak is heavy and you can see the quality in the manufacturing of the speaker. The sound produced is superior to that which I experienced with the Definitive system. The subwoofer I got with the set was also superior to any other subwoofer I have had in the past. The speak comes with mounting brackets and connect in a unique way that allows the speaker cable to remain hidden. This comes standard with each speaker. I liked it so much I upgraded my living room set with the same speakers. Expensive but worth the money. Make sure you get the subwoofer too.

      Very Good

These speakers are very, very good for their small size. I auditioned these today through a moderately powered Marantz integrated amplifier. Very clear highs and midrange. Just listened to music through them alone and not with a center channel or subwoofer. I listened to some Def Techs and also two bookshelf size Martin Logans. I definitely prefer the sound of these to the either of those two. I do not like a lot of bass. I prefer clarity and sound stage or spaciousness to loud or booming sound and these do quite well for me. The Martin Logans did not sound as clear or warm as these and they were 3x to 6x the size of these speakers. This is just my personal opinion and my own listening preference. If you like loud music or a lot of bass or if you want to use them in a surround sound setup, then you will need the subwoofer.

I had originally decided to go with some in-wall B&W speakers when replacing the tower speakers I was using as rears, but after an assessment of the wall situation in our 110-year-old house, decided to go with these little gems. Perhaps the sound isn't quite as "big" as it would have been with the in-walls, but they still sound amazing. (I almost wrote "for the size," but, no... Just "amazing." Full stop.) I've been super impressed with everything about the build quality as well. From the clever speaker wire connections that keep everything neatly contained to the included bases and mounting brackets that make it easy to mount or stand the speakers in numerous configurations, B&W have thought through it all and built their designs with the highest quality materials and craftsmanship.
