    Synopsis

    Broken City
In this modern noir from director Allen Hughes, his first fiction feature-length film in over a decade, Mark Wahlberg stars as Billy Taggart, a New York City private eye struggling to get his deadbeat clients to pay when he gets a call from Mayor Hostetler (Russell Crowe). His honor remembers Billy from seven years ago when, as a cop, the young man shot a rapist who had been exonerated on a technicality. Back then, the Mayor told Billy he was a hero, but Billy was still forced off the job due to the public outcry and some incriminating evidence that never saw the light of day. Now the mayor needs someone he can trust to find out if his wife (Catherine Zeta-Jones) is having an affair - a fact that could cause him considerable trouble seeing as Election Day is just a week away. As Billy digs for the truth, he uncovers layers of political corruption, and discovers he himself is nothing more than a pawn in a much bigger game. The film co-stars Jeffrey Wright as a police commissioner, Kyle Chandler as a political consultant, and Barry Pepper as the mayor's political rival. ~ Perry Seibert, Rovi

The only reason I purchased this movie is because I am a fan of Russell's. He gets second billing behind Wahlberg’s. Oscar winner behind non award winner. Catherine, who I like, another Oscar winner did NOT have her name above title. But Wahlberg with no award wins? I do not care if he produced, show correct credit in films. I will say this plus to the blu ray/DVD combo. At least the blu ray had some extras. I was not expecting that since the film was not successful at the box office or with critics. You could not follow the story. Yes, surprises BUT they have to make sense. Did we really need to follow Wahlberg’s personal life with the girlfriend/wife, whoever she was. Made no sense and was unnecessary. I found myself fast forwarding over the scenes without Russell and or Catherine. I just did not care. They did do a good job with their roles, not surprising. Unless you are a fan of the cast just bypass this film. Makes no sense.

Starts with a great cast, Russell Crowe (Gladiator, A Beautiful Mind), Mark Wahlberg (The Fighter), Catherine Zeta-Jones (Chicago, Zorro), Jeffrey Wright (Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace), Kyle Chandler (Super 8, Friday Night Lights) and a great director Allen Hughes, of the Hughes Brothers, I think this is his first solo film. The story starts with Crowe the mayor hiring ex-cop down and out private I Wahlberg to see if his wife Zeta-Jones is having an affair, of course she is, and there's murder and a reelection and some more twists and turns.

The storyline shows how a one time cop gets caught up in one bad scene and he is thrown off the police force. Unknowing to him all of this was captured on film that was later used to bartered with him by the Mayor of the City of NYC to act in accordance with his plot to investigate his spouse for an ex-martiable affair while the mayor eliminates his opposition to his re-election plans. The mayor is corrupt and he tries to corrupt everyone around him until the truth catches up with him.

This is a corruption drama. A former cop turned private investigator (Mark Wahlberg plays) is hired by the Mayor of New York City (Russell Crowe) to investigate the mayor's cheating wife (Catherine Zeta-Jones). It's a story set about a mayoral race. The speed is expected, and there are some twists and turns. Not a bad film, after all, and it's worth watching once, especially if you like any of main characters that give a good performance.

Great action and drama in this movie and an overall fun experience to watch...I thought it was a bit different than the normal story and this kind of movie is what I enjoy. I don't like the same old plot redone and redone and I am also not a big fan of all the remakes being done now so when something new comes out, I make sure and see it! Maybe someday Hollywood will get some new ideas! This was a good movie though and worth renting for sure :)

1040's style Political Crime Drama starring Wahlberg, Crowe and Zeta-Jones and entertaining the first time around as you watch Mark and Russell dance around each other but otherwise an average movie with simple seen it before plot themes.

I've seen this movie over and over-Wahlberg as a stand up guy who takes the fall in the end. You won't be disappointed-the politics is unnerving, a gotta watch movie like his other movie Shooter!

Let me first state that I am a big Mark Whalberg fan, that being said this movie was kind of boring. You know from the beginning who the good and bad guys are but it takes forever to get anywhere. Not Marky Marks best.
