I LOVE THIS PRINTER

Baught this to replace a Dell All-In-One. Love it!!! It prints FAST...even 2 sided. Love the paper size options. The fact that it is wireless was the biggest draw. Very easy to set up and use. The ink cartriges go a very long time. Like the fact that all the cartriges are seperate and only need to replace depleted cartriges one at a time as needed. Like that the cartriges are fairly priced and available at many locations. (Dell cartriges were through Dell or Staples only.) Would definitely recommend this printer to others and will definitely by brother in the future. VERY VERY PLEASED with this product.

Well designed and built large format printer

I bought this printer to replace another brand multifunction machine. When looking for another multifunction, I noticed that this machine was a large format machine, priced the same or less than regular sized machines. The large format is super useful for my engineering work - both scanning and printing drawings. I am pleasantly surprised by the quality/build-level of the machine for the relatively low cost, and also by the reasonable price of inks (consumption/cartridge cost). My former multifunction ink cartridges cost a fortune plus the the machine was clearly designed to fail. So far, the performance of this Brother machine is very good, and the included basic Brother ControlCenter4 software works very well and is easy to set up. I recommend using that software and not installing the Paperport software provided as most people don't need the full Paperport document management and the all the "stuff" that comes with it. I am using it on a wired LAN - setup was trouble-free. I wish it would start up in copy mode, instead of defaulting to fax mode (which I do not use) but that's my only complaint. I also have a Brother b/w laser, bought a year ago, and these two printers are a great, economical combo for my needs. Like any of these printers, you need to treat them carefully, gently, and with respect, clean/maintain them properly, and make sure you don't let too much time go by without printing (most important for the inkjet). I feel with that approach they should last a long time.

Dissapointing

My small business had a Brother MFC 6490 and were very pleased with it except that we print large documents and wanted to have a duplexing option. After pricing other large scale business printers we decided to stick with the small office version. This does duplexing so I guess we got what we asked for, but the quality and speed are much less than desired...even worse than the less expensive 6490. There's one particular document that we create frequently that we have to print, then scan. It loses quality both times leaving us with something that looks similar to a shiny oil spill over the images within the document. Also, the speed of each operation is much slower than our previous Brother.

Nice printer for a home office w/medium demands

Bought this to handle work from my home office with light-med. demands. Is very versatile with multi-features, has run smoothly, was easy to set up. Haven't tried the wireless feature yet cause haven't needed it but that's a feature I'm glad is possible just in case. Duplexing has been a snap and multi-page copying has gone on without a hitch. Could be a tad faster but is comparable to my other inkjet. Needed good color which it has so I opted for inkjet rather than a laser which would not have had as good quality. Overall, I am very happy with this purchase and would recommend it for a small office.
