CORSAIR's newest entry of top-of-the-line headsets

8 days ago, corsair launched this beauty of a headset, successor to their VIRTUOSO XT variant. I was given the opportunity to buy this headset and experience them firsthand, and I must say that the first impressions of the headset are absolutely amazing. I messed around with several of the settings, including the brand new Active Noice Cancellation and Transparency features, the SoundID customization, and the seamless technology of switching between devices through the onboard switch to change between 2.4GHz wireless and Bluetooth to my phone. Disclaimer: I did NOT test the microphone on this headset, as I do not use a headset microphone because I have a boom mic. Please also take this review very lightly as the headset JUST released, and the firmware and software updates are yet to come from CORSAIR, which means not everyone's experience will be the same, and there may be some bugs until they're patched out. I myself experienced this issue with the iCUE 5 software saying the firmware update for the headset failed, since there isn't even a release of the firmware out yet, only the one that's pre-loaded onto the headset/USB. SOUND QUALITY: Comparing these to my HS80 MAX's, which I had before this headset, the VIRTUOSO MAX blows it out of the water, with amazing sound quality with bass that kicks harder than an NFL kicker sending a field goal. The iCUE 5 software has 4 pre-set equalizers, Pure Direct, Bass Booster, Movie Theater, and FPS Competition. I played around with these equalizers, and all of them sound amazing for their purposes. The sound quality on the headset in the windows setting displays as 8 channels, which truly shows the capability of the Dolby Atmos should you want to use it. Just a note is that if you choose to use the Atmos surround sound, you are unable to configure the equalizers through the iCUE software, and you must download the Dolby Access app to configure and change how the headset sounds. The same will go with the SoundID software, it will disable usage of the equalizers through iCUE. Overall, a very high-quality sounding headset, and I experienced no issues with first usage. WIRELESS CONNECTION: The headset has two different modes of connection, and both of them can be used at the same time, should you desire. In the box, the headset will come with a 2.4GHz WIFI Transmitter, which is as simple as plug and play, and the headset will connect easily. To take advantage of the full capabilities of the headset though, you must download the iCUE Software, available off of CORSAIR's website. The headset is also compatible with Bluetooth connections and is very easy and seamless to use. Furthermore, you can also have multiple devices connected at once, one with the transmitter, and one on Bluetooth, meaning you can swap between the two devices easily, a flick of a switch basically. By default, the turn wheel on the left earcup is set to control the volume of the device connected via the USB Transmitter, and the right ear cup is configured to control the volume of the device connected via Bluetooth. There is also a button on the right side of the headset that can be configured for a number of different usages through the iCUE app. Disclaimer on this: I have spoken with CORSAIR tech support before, and the following things can cause issues with the connection to the headset, keep this in mind if you purchase it and occur issues with the transmitter disconnecting or the headset not showing in iCUE: -BIOS version outdated -Conflicting apps such as Armory Crate, or other hardware-controlling apps -iCUE Being outdated BUILD QUALITY / WHAT'S IN THE BOX: In terms of the build quality of the VIRTUOSO MAX, it's absolutely amazing. The turn dials on the earcups are very smooth, the power switch is very easy to use, and the memory foam on the earpieces is a bit hard to the feel at first, but they adjust over time. Yes. there are a few complaints of the headset is a bit heavy, but I found this to not be a big issue, especially if you're only doing short gaming sessions. It is a little bit heavy like some consumers say, but it didn't bother me personally. As for what comes in the box, unboxing was very easy, as everything is already packed into the carrying case inside the box for you. It'll come with a USB-A -> C cable for charging and updating the headset firmware, the USB Transmitter, the microphone piece is disconnected and connects to the left earcup through USB-C, and then the headset itself. Summary: Overall, this is a very good headset, especially around this price where the competition of best headset is fierce with the other big names having excellent headsets. Well worth the $330, but obviously even better if there's a sale going on.

So much potential but a fail for now!

For the first week I would have given this a rating of 3 stars, but a few days ago the mic was messing up and my friends online couldn’t understand me. The headset being uncomfortable was something I was trying to deal with but the mic messing up was the breaking point. My favorite part of the headset was the ability to adjust the volume for music on the right side and left side for gaming. Maybe I will come back to these later once they work out the issues, but for now this is a hard NO for me!

    Pretty good

Coming from a pair of DT 990s its honestly pretty good, i only use the flat preset since i like neutal sounds and not overpowering bass or treble. Headset is surprisingly comfortable unlike the previous vurtuoso. Very clear and easy to hear footsteps in csgo and valorant.
